Should I name my main character Veronica or Verona? And what about a last name?

I'm going to write a story and I was planning on naming my main character Veronica, but then I saw Verona on a baby name site and I thought it would fit her character well. The thing is, Verona has never been a very popular name and the last time it was even in the top 1000 was in the 1930's. I'm not sure what to do. My story takes place now, and the character is 18. Also, does anybody have any good ideas for a last name? I'm really bad at thinking of them.

  1. I like Veronica and the French version Veronique

    Veronica Novak?

  2. Verona Alvaro it flows and both have similar meanings. Verona means truth and Alvaro means guardian of the truth.

  3. Veronica Chadwick

  4. Go with Verona. If you think it'll fit the character better, it's obviously the better choice. Besides, I think it has a nicer ring to it. Even if Verona is an uncommon name, you can still find a way to relate it to the character; perhaps it was the character's grandmother's name, a similar relative, or even one of her mother's best friends or her role model. It doesn't need to be an issue but if you feel the need to explain why she has that name, this could help make it sound right.

If you're looking for a last name, go to the link in my sources. It's a name generator that'll come up with basic, realistic-sounding names, including last names. You can pick one you think works the best for your character.

Now, without knowing more about your character, these were the last names I thought might be good:

    Verona Barber

    Verona Sharpe

    Verona Cohen

    Verona Wolfe

    Verona Guthrie

Whatever you choose, though, I would keep it simple. Because her first name is so different, you want a basic last name to balance it out. Otherwise your readers might think she's too good to be true.

  5. veronica whitney masterson

    ha it sounds dangerous

  6. I love the sound of Verona!

    it sounds so exotic!

is it like the city in Italy?

  7. I like the name Verona, maybe you could put into the story how it is a family name or something. You want to have a unique name in your story. Verona Shane. I think it is a bad *** sounding name. Also, try Verona Rey. Both have a unique and cool sound. Please, let us know where we can read the story, I am so interested in reading it.

  8. I think Verona is cool.

  9. I think Verona is a good choice. I like it. It's cool to have it be uncommon. A last name could be, in the spirit of the Olympics, Phelps or, one of my favorite philosophers, Nietzsche.

    Go with what you feel.

  10. Veronica James

  11. I like the name verona.... I think it could work...

and for a last name, use a family name.... or the name of somebody who means alot to you...
