Hi, I just sold my horse. I could not be out at the ranch at the time that the people were going to come look at my horse so my training who has trained the horse for the last 9 months said that she could show him for me. They bought him. Should I offer a fee to my trainer for helping me show him to the buyers? I sold him for 2000.00, how much should I give her?

Thanks.

  1. I would definitely offer her something. I mean, she was there on her own time to help you sell your horse. I'd maybe say $100.

This says thank you to her, but also if you are in this position in years to come she may still be around and able to help you again.

Offer her it if she whether takes it or not, at least you showed her some appreciation!!

  2. i would like to say $200 but it also all depends on your financial status.was she paid well for her training service or a good trainer over all? would you go back to her if you got another horse? so yeah i go with 200 if it was a yes to those questions.if not a 100 cool.

  3. $100.00   maybe   just a thought

  4. its not called a fee, it called gratuity. you show your gratitude by giving her between 50 or a 100 dollars. that should be enough.

  5. Yes. Its normal for a trainer to collect a fee for helping find a buyer. I know many trainers that will build that into the price of the horse, not all trainers to this. I have seen up to 15% of the sale price goto the trainer. I'm not saying you give 15% to your trainer. But a 100 bucks is an adaquite spiff to give your tainer for helping out. Good job on selling your horse, 2 grand is a good price right now.

  6. I would think that you should give a percentage like say 10% or 200.00.

  7. 10%.  If you have a horse in training with a trainer and the horse sells either because of the trainers work, or because the trainer finds a buyer you should give 10% of the sale price of the horse.

  8. I would give her a small tip. If you sold him for $2000, I don't think a $100 tip would be bad, even up to $250. Not only is it a tip for selling, but also a thank-you payment for helping you for the past 9 months.

  9. Without an advance agreement you can make it whatever you are comfortable with, but I wouldn't go so low that it is insulting.  What would the trainer make for that investment of time in a training session?  You could use that as your guide.

  10. We have a sellers fee which is 10 percent.  It may be more or less in other areas of the country.  .. It's a lot of work to prep and show a horse that is for sale...your trainer deserves some remuneration for her efforts.

  11. I would. You can ask her what precentage she wants from the price you sould him as, or you can just guess. $50-$200 dollars would be about right.
