Generally, I am not the strongest physically. I will have my Associate of Arts Liberal Arts degree in about 8 months. I have a GPA in the lower 3.0 region.

I am kind of burnt out on school too.

I will be an E-3 if I join the Air Force because of my college credits and I am an Eagle Scout.

  1. Well since Brian S brought it up. . .AFI 36-6006 states that Eagle Scouts will enlist in the Air Force as an E-2.  Eagle Scouts are no joke.   Also, AFROTC (college ROTC)  is a direct commission source.  We commission 98% of our graduates.  AFI 36-6006 (same paragraph) states that individuals with 44 or more credits can enlist as E-3.

I would encourage you to stay in school.  Too many people stop going for one reason or other and never get back to it.   A GPA in the low 3.0 is competitive for scholarships.  Take a look at AFROTC and see what you think.

  2. First off, don't think that going to AFROTC is your choice, its the Air Force's. Your chances of being accepted are not great. A 3.0 GPA isn't as high as they want it. But you're almost certain to get in if you enlist.

  3. My dad joined the Air Force after he graduated from high school, and had a solid career for the next thirty years. The military doesn't have layoffs as much as other civilian companies, so you're pretty much guaranteed lifetime employment. It comes with a lot of benefits, too - if you wanted to pursue a bachelors or masters degree, the military would pay for it completely. You could also get stationed overseas in Germany or Japan, which I highly recommend.

The AF doesn't require you to be strong - that's the Army or the Marines. The AF is more about piloting, and watching radars. You don't need to be a heavyweight champion to do that.

I would say go for it. You can always join the AF for a few years, and if you don't like it, get out. Maybe by that time you'll have figured out what you want to do.

  4. I am kind of at a loss on how an eagle scout converts over to any type of meaning in the military. The military is not the boy-scouts. Any type of JR OTC is also not the military.

From what you mentioned for education, I am not sure that your degree will qualify to much of anything on the outside.

  5. Participate in AF ROTC!!!

    Way better choice.
