Question:

Should I pay for a last will and testament?

To start, I'm a single woman with no children. I've been looking online for a free last will and testament and all of them have a clause for children, among other things that don't apply to me at all. The only thing that I'm able to find that fits all my needs are the ones that do all the work for you, but you have to pay.

Any suggestions??

  1. The most common thing that invalidates a will is improper execution.  If you don't know what you are doing, you can make a will that's completely invalid.  If you have enough assets to worry about, you have enough to hire a lawyer.  It's not that expensive if you know what you have and how you want to dispose of it.

  2. I don't know of any free services but I went through www.legalzoom.com and it was very inexpensive and easy to do. I would highly suggest it.

  3. A will in your own handwriting, a holographic will, is acceptable.

You could use one of the free ones like a template and remove or add whatever is necessary.

Just get it notarized and make sure someone knows where to find it upon your death.

If you get married and/or have children then it will be worth paying for a will to make sure your intentions are carried out.
