Should I pay full price??

Took my wedding dress in to get alterations on the 12th...he said it would be ready today. I go in try it on and he didn't even expand through the hips like I had asked him...the dress was bunched up at the top of my hips. I asked him to bussel on the underside and he busseled on the outside with this huge hook and loop which when I was in there initially he said he was going to have three separate buttons on the underside to make it lay like it was "hemmed"

I was depending on getting my dress today so I could take it to the cleaner this week...I am getting married out of town and have to travel next week. He said he would fix it and asked me to come back Saturday. I am so frustrated with his service and don't even know if on Sat he is going to have it right...

Should I pay $170 for alterations that are a week late for a dress that only cost $399???

  1. I wouldn't pay full price. He was supposed to have it ready for you and it's not...plus, it doesn't sound like he did what you asked.

I would give him a call tomorrow. Tell him that you are disappointed with his work and want to make sure that he can do it on time.

  2. unfortunately you may be stuck. however if you paid with your credit card you have consumer protection on your side. you can call your card and dispute the charges based on not receiving the services you requested. it might take some time but if its really worth it to you then I would give it a try. however I just got married out of town too and the traveling made everything so hectic and unorganized that I would recommend you take it with a grain of salt...you have enough on your plate to argue with a stranger! Good Luck and Congrats

  3. Well, you do have to pay for the alterations if he does the work. You should have not paid and called around and taken the dress elsewhere after he blew it the first time. Make sure you have a written list of what you want done and that he has that in hand so he doesn't miss anything that you want in detail. I'd call around and find someone who will do the work right for you the first time and tell him that you changed your mind ASAP.

  4. First of all, no matter what happens you need that dress. So dont p**s him off or threaten him until he finishes. If he is not finished on Saturday, take it somewhere else (start investigating now and calling around this week, just in case you need to use someone elses services).

If he does the alterations, I would pay him his price which you agreed to. If he doesnt do a good job, you can make your case and take pictures of the dress as well. The cost of your dress here (399) is irrelevant, if the dress needed extensive alterations then you have to pay. My alterations were 350 on a 700 dress.

  5. I would ask for a low cost due to the things that were wrong and having to wait longer for it now.

  6. I WOULD NOT PAY FULL PRICE, IF I WERE YOU I WOULD ASK HIM FOR A DISCOUNT.

  7. I wouldnt pay full price, I would ask him to lower it because of his mistakes.

  8. no and if he is a certified buisness owner call the better business bureau and the town chamber of commerce! that will stop that c**p!

  9. No way! But say it after the work is done because you might find yourself stuck otherwise. Don't pay the full price. I have a little story about a wedding dress....my best friend's sister was getting married last month and the NIGHT BEFORE THE WEDDING their mother was ironing the dress...you know where this is going...The phone rang and the mother plonked the iron down on the dress and ran to get the phone. This woman is an absolutely adorable woman before you all call her names, she cares for elderly and disabled people and has a heart of gold but fusses hugely and gets a bit over-excited about big events. Anyway, of course the iron burned a big hole right through the dress and there was no fixing it so that it was unnoticeable! The poor woman almost had a heart attack and the bride was distraught. She had to get her husband-to-be to drive 100 miles to their house so that he could get some of the leftover bridesmaid material and luckily she is good with stitching and crafts so she made a feature with the new material and an antique brooch over the hole. It wasn't what she wanted but in the end it made the dress very striking and everyone commented on how pretty it looked.

  10. no way! i would go to him and say, my wedding is next week and you didnt do the job i asked. im not paying!
