  1. Saxophone is great. Once you learn it, it is relatively easy to pick up other instruments as well (the clarinet especially, as with alto/soprano sax the mouthpiece and the fingerings are largelythe same). Also, you can get awesome sounds on all the different saxes so you have a lot of styles/sounds to pick from.

Tenor and baritone and bass can be a little rough to start on. Alto would be a good one to start with, then you can always move to one of the bigger ones once you are comfortable with technique.

    Good luck and have fun!

  2. I have played the saxophone since the 6th grade. I'm now a freshman and still love it and I'm sure I'll love it just as much when I'm a senior. It's not the only good instrument to play of course and really just depends on the person, but overall it's a great instrument. I LOVE IT! And I'm sure you would too if you tried it. You can play so many different styles on a saxophone, and it's FUN!

  3. This will be about the tenor saxophone, since it is the one I am most familiar with.

I am in LOVE with the saxophone, to say the least. My boyfriend even (jokingly) accused me of loving my tenor sax more than I loved him ;-P.

    Good:

    -Tons of fun

-People are always impressed when you tell them what is in the baby whale-sized case

-You can rock out on it xD

-It's really easy to make it seem like you didn't make a mistake, since saxophonists improvise so often

    -Builds up your arm strength

-If you forget to polish it one day, people can't really tell lol

    Bad:

-Takes a little more breath than what you may be used to

-Baby whale-sized case can give you blisters if you have to walk 1/2 mile to get to your bus stop and another 1/2 mile to get back home like me

-It's pretty gross taking the mouthpiece off. If you don't take it off slowly and carefully, spit will spatter everyone in a 2-meter proximity xD

-Takes quite a while to put away

-Unless you're in jazz band, you usually get about the same part as the trombones (a.k.a BORING lol)

I would recommend starting out in regular band until jazz band is available.

Jazz band has always been so much fun for the tenor sax because tenor saxophones always get the best solos :•P

Good luck, and stay in band!
