Question:

Should I pole vault?

I am entering my junior year and I may seriously consider pole vaulting this year. I am 5'5 135. I bench about 165 and squat 275. I run my 40 yard dash under 5 seconds. What makes a good pole vaulter? Is It Hard? Am I best suited for this event? What preparations should I take?

  1. definitely try. i've done pole vault only for about 5 month, but you seem suited. i'm a really light weight, being 5'5 and 105 lbs, and if you can sprint fast, can lift your own body weight, and you're well coordinated, then it should be good for you. me, being super light, i have a disadvantage, because the pole does not bend quite as much, so its good for you. a big part of pole vault though is technique, so as long as you get enough practice, it should be good for you.

  2. Can you do a decent handstand? That was the requirement to join the pole vault team. A good run and no fear. Being able to move your own body weight via pull ups, push ups. Strong core. In my experience high school boys pick up pole vault pretty easy. Go for it!

  3. YEAH!
