Question:

Should I purchase Rosetta Stone Russian?

I have taken a year of Russian at the college level and have learned most of the grammar required in the first year (dative, accusative, nominative, etc). I want to continue taking Russian but I'm very rusty. It has been a year since I've last taken a class.

What product would you recommend for refreshing me on my Russian as well as learning new things?

  1. Don't purchase it.  First see if your library has free public access to it - many do.  If they do, then try it out to see if you like it.  RS also has a free demo disc you can try.  I don't like their set up at *all*.  Also, RS does a very poor job with grammar.  If you want to continue to advance with grammar, don't use RS.

Here's a great site that has Russian:

  2. Rosetta Stone is great for vocabulary. It's harder to learn grammar with Rosetta Stone but it sounds like you are just a little rusty. I think Rosetta Stone is a good choice for you.

    Best of Luck!

  3. Whatever you do, don't spend money on it - it's so not worth it.  If you can get it for free through your library, it'll be a good vocab refresher, but that's really it.

Mango Languages is good, Auralog Tell Me More is also a really good program.  Just don't spend money on Rosetta Stone :)
