Question:

Should I purpose Carson Palmer for Derek Anderson?

I am thinking about trading Palmer for Anderson because I have Chad Johnson as one of my WRs. The reason for this idea is because I feel both Palmer and Johnson are question marks this year and I don't want to roll the dice and have them both coincidently be flops. I am thinking about trading Palmer away because a QB's poor performance could potentially be more detrimental then a WR's. Should I purpose this trade? Do you think the other owner would accept this trade? Is there a better QB option other than Anderson that is near Palmer's value, that another owner would likely trade for?

  1. I would trade Johnson instead of palmer unless you could get a tom brady but thats unlikely but i think any owner would accept anderson for palmer

  2. I'd agree with that plan.  The Bengals' aren't the best team and play in a tough division, and I can see them coming from behind in most games, passing a lot in the 4th quarter to try and catch up.  While that may seem like a good thing, keep in mind that Palmer threw a lot of picks last year and will probably do it again this year.  The offense around him just isn't what it was a few years ago (specifically, a weaker O-line and ground game).

I like the move of trading Palmer instead of Chad Johnson, although you do have to realize that Johnson is a streaky player week-to-week.  Derek Anderson is about as close in value as you can get to Palmer, and his numbers shouldn't tail off that much from his breakout '07 season.  Normally, the "handcuffing" strategy of taking 2 players from the same team is beneficial, but only then those 2 palyers are on a good NFL team.  I don't think Cincinnati is a good NFL team.

  3. 1) You're right to trade Palmer away.  Palmer does still have T.J. Housh but his future will live and die with Johnson.

    2) Palmer for Anderson would be a fair trade.  They are both solid players, and they both have question marks.  Palmer's is Ocho Cinco, and Anderson's is Brady Quinn.

    3) I think you could do better for Palmer.  You can always fall back on Anderson but shoot for Roethlisberger or Drew Brees first.  My guess is that the Brees offer will be a "no" and the Roeth offer will be a "yes."  If they both say no, shoot for whoever has Anderson.

  4. I definitely feel Anderson will have a better year than Palmer. The Browns are much more balanced team with a better running game and offensive line. Further, with the questions underlying Chad Johnson, I believe the Browns have a much more superior passing game
