Should I put community service on my resume?

I'm 16 and in my high school year you were forced to do 40 hours of community service. I did these hours but I was wondering, should I put these on my resume?

The place I helped at was a Salvation Army. I had to stock this, put this back on the rack, help bag things, carry things outside, etc.

Yes.  I type resumes as a part time job and it's a great thing to put on it!

Yes.  It looks good because it shows that you care about people and want to help in some way.

I wouldn't, it could be construed as community service for legal trouble, best just to steer clear of it.

Depending on what kind of resume you are writing you can most definitely use this information. You can find help on key words to use on Resume Builders or some other resume assisting website.

I would put it on, but make it very clear that it was a 'volutary' excercise, as they make mistakenly assume trouble with the law

Yes, put it on your resume, but call it "volunteering", and don't make it sound like something you hated doing, even if it was. Talk about what you did, how you worked with others, if you worked as part of a team, how you worked with customers, howyou worked with a diversity of people, how you faced any challenges and how you overcame these, what you learned, etc. Employers want to see that you can balance your work and non-work life, that you can handle various tasks, that you know how to work with people of different backgrounds, that you are invested in the community, etc. Also, you should have a reference from the Salvation Army that can attest to your work there.

I would put it on my resume.  This shows that you know how to do these things.

Believe it or not, there are people out there that have NO clue on how to do some of the things that you did for your Community Service.
