I have some people telling me you only need 2 in the front and others say replace all 4. I have a front wheel drive vehicle.

  1. NEVER put only 2 snow tires on the front, and it doesn't matter if you have FWD, RWD, or AWD.  Your front will stop faster than the rear, and throw you into an uncontrollable spin.  If you are too cheap to buy 4 snows, put the 2 on the rear, for safety.  It doesn't matter how well you can accelerate, what counts is stopping.  No reputable shop will put 2 snows on the front.

Buy 4 for the best combination of handling, safety, etc.

  2. I would go with all 4...even with front wheel drive your back tires need to grip the road when you turn or the back end will side around and catch up with your front end. ...plus it will handle better with all the tires being the same type and size.

  3. two in the front is sufficient with good tires in the back

  4. if you cant afford it then 2 is fine, if you can afford it then get 4.....   I had 2 front snow tires and 2 18" rims in the back and i was fine. drive safe thou

  5. It depends. If you have front wheel drive you snow tires should go on the front. It is rear wheel drive than the back of you car. Just make sure the tires in the back are in great condition no matter what you do. It you have a 4 wheel drive you shoud but it on all 4 wheels

Also if you can afford it, put snow tires on all 4 wheels anyway.

Most mechanic in my state will not put superior tires only in the front of your car. It just too dangerous and increased the change of  "fish-tailing".

  6. I haven't purchased snow tires in my entire life. FWD with all season tires should suffice. I live in NE Ohio (lake effect snows) and have never had a problem.

  7. Check out what the tire rack has to say.

If the front tires have a lot more grip than the back, the back will tend to slide to the left or right when slowing down or braking. There are tires that are a good compromise between all weather and true winter.

  8. You should put all four so you would drive better

  9. If it is front wheel drive, then you only want snow tires on the front. If you mean tires with studs. Just remember that if the tires do have studs, then whenever the road does not have snow on it, it will create a huge amount of noise and vibration. You can purchase snow chains/ snow cables that you can put on and remove whenever there is bad weather on the way. Make sure you know the tire size.

  10. just on the front...on the back would have no purpose
