Question:

Should I put my 2 year old BOY in gymnastics?

My son has taken a profound interest in sports: baseball, basketball, soccer and especially FOOTBALL-he is only 2, but he runs and kicks and he has great coordination. I feel like he is ready to be on a team of some sort but he is too young for everything in my area (Kansas City, MO) besides gymnastics or swimming. I feel like gymnastics may give him a better platform for other sports; rather than swimming (even though I am a swimmer myself!) What do you think about putting a boy in gymnastics at 2?

  1. that's fine if he likes to be active he will enjoy having something to do. there is nothing wrong with a swim class either. go with what he seems happier doing.

  2. I think gymnastics would be good for him. He would probably love it. I signed my daughter who is almost two up for gymnastics and their were a couple little boys that were going to be in her class.

Good luck and he would probably love swimming too.

  3. I think that is great, it builds great muscles, if he chooses to keep it going. At age 2, it will be more of a fun class for him, but as he gets older, if he stays in it, he will build great muscles and stay very fit. We had our now 4 year old son in it, but he chose to stop at age 3. We were fine with it. He had a blast while he was in it, but decided not to keep going. He still does the stuff he learned in class though. He also loves sports and was very coordinated from age 1.5 or so and up.My oldest daughter is in it and loves it. She has been in for 12 years now. She is 14.  I say go for it, if he doesn't like it you can pull him out, but I'm sure that won't be necessary.

  4. If they offer gymnastics for kids who are that young then why not?

  5. I think its a great idea! this would give him a chance to socialize also give him better coordination!....my sister and I both started out in gymnastics and she stuck it out longer she can now do ANY sport and be good at it....she is a senior in High School and she has had 3 offers for full ride scholarships...1 in Diving, 1 in cheerleading and one in Track and Field....My whole family including my sister believes that it is due to her early gymnastics....she has also broke every record for women in diving and track and filed....I'm really proud of her...without a doubt if your son shows interest get him started early!

  6. The younger the better. Just make sure that he's semi-potty trained and doesn't go all over the mats and stuff. LOL☺

  7. I think it sounds smart. He'll be able to take directions, he'll build upper and lower body strength and he might even enjoy it enough to continue when he gets older. You'd be surprised, gymnastics is a highly competitive sport that teaches discipline and promotes a healthy lifestyle. So it should be a good foundation.

  8. If he's willing to try it then yes, mom. Go for it. I waited till my boy was five and he was already embarrassed to even try it. I say the younger, the better. You're very lucky to live in a place that has such a variety to choose from and if you have the time, all he needs is encouragement.
