Question:

Should I put my cat asleep?

Well my aunt gave my bro Midnight to him when he was 5 when she was little...now he's 18 and she's kind of old now... :(

She has been peeing everywhere and using the cat litter sometimes. But this has been happening maybe for almost two months. She's been losing her fur from her back and has a lot of scabs everywhere but she had flees. And she's looking a little worst, and now her meows are so different as if she was suffering a bit... And everytime she sees someone she follows them and meows badly. She likes to be somewhere warm always...So when the A/C is on she hides somewhere. Everyone doesn't know what to do and I feel bad =[

Any Suggestions or anything? I need to know!

  1. please take your precious darling to the vet and discuss the issue with him or her. also discuss this issue with your family to do what is best for them also. if your cat is really suffering it might be time. besides she/he will be in a better place rather than having to be stuck here suffering.

hey there is some good luck! ask your vet about relief bladder medication. which controld your cats bladder.

  2. No one can tell you if you need to put your cat down. It will be one of the hardest decisions you ever make. But if you think he is suffering it would be best, and the most humane thing to do. I would hope when I woke up that my Great Dane would have passed in her sleep, but at 10 1/2 she never did and I had to make that decision. I feel for you.

    GOOD LUCK

  3. I don't think you should put her to sleep right away. Maybe take her to the vet and see if she possibly is diseased from all of the fleas she has. Fleas can make an animal very sick. She might be unaware where she is using the bathroom because of this. If you want to keep her take her to the vet if not take her to the humane society and see what they can do for her.

  4. Aww. =( Sorry I love animals. I had a dog I had to put to sleep when I was in 6th grade because I guess she was "drowning" from the fluid in her longs. She lived a long life though. She was a chihuahua and she lived for like 14 years.  (I was 12 and she had an owner before us)

I'd say to take the cat to the vet and see if there's anything really wrong with it. If she's sick and in pain, like constantly, it would be only nice to let her be in peace. So you should put her to sleep IF she's suffering. It'd be selfish to have her live if she's always miserable.

But, it's all up to you. It's going to be hard, but harder for you than the cat. Just remember that =-)

  5. we had a dog like that, one day she just couldn't stand anymore, it was scary.

our dog was still alive, just in this body that couldn't support itself. it just kept getting worse, i wish we had put her to sleep sooner.

yes, i think that it would be best to put midnight to sleep,

then, hey! look on the bright side, she had a good life, and she was happy. there's nothing to be sad about, only to be Happy that she has lived.

    i hope this helps.

  6. Take to her to the vet and see what they have to say.

  7. I had a cat for 15 years. I dont think you need to put your cat down. Would you kill someone if they were "old"? My cat died when she was 18 years old. She had the same symptoms as you are describing and I just spent time with her. Dont kill your cat because she is old. Keep her in a warm room, with a litterbox near by. She is prolly slowly dying but it sounds like she wants to be with someone when it happens. Dont discourage her! LOVE HER while you can!

  8. I would definitely put her to sleep.  We had a cat that kept on Puking and Crapping everywhere so we put her down.  She was also very old.  You don't want the cat to go hide somewhere and never come back because it died.  then you find it three or so more days later.

  9. take the cat to a vet first before you consider putting it down.

  10. Hello,

I'm very sorry to hear about poor Midnight.... I am in a similar situation with my own cat named catnip. He is also around 18 years old if not older and he pees everywhere, is loosing his fur and his meows are rather scary. Whenever I lie down he always makes sure that his paws are touching me. I have read online that when animals want attention, whether its by touching or just being near you a lot, usually means that they are going to pass soon. I know catnip has wanted a lot more attention from not only me but every other person lately.

I wouldn't put Midnight to sleep quite yet as it seems she might not live much longer. I dont know for sure obviously but she still seems to have some will to live.

    Hope this helps.

  11. have the vet look at her, maybe it is something fixable. if not then consider putting the cat to sleep.

  12. if i were dyeing i'd follow people around too, begging for comfort. if that's the case with your cat.

maybe you should talk to your vet, or a vet. a checkup for me is about 36 for my cat. you can call around and ask though.

our male cat lived to be about 16. he sometimes would pee elsewhere than his litterbox because he had arthritis and it hurt him to walk. but he did not lose fur or act indifferently when turning air on.

  13. The most important thing to consider with regards to our pets is quality of life. If your pet is still eating, drinking, playing with her toys and seems other wise happy, then perhaps you should take her to your vet and have her urine checked for a urinary tract infection and start her on flea prevention such as frontline or advantage. However if you are unable to afford medical care for one reason or another, then euthanasia is a humane option. The beautiful thing about animal medicine is that our pets do not have to suffer until they die. If she is no longer enjoying life, you can humanely put her to sleep. It is the most difficult desicion but it is also the most selfless because you are putting her first. Too many people make their pets suffer needlessly because they are not ready to let go. You pet will tell you when she is ready. You may never be ready but take comfort in knowing she will no longer be suffering. Remember the good times you had with her and let her go with dignity. My sympathy is with you. When our beloved family members pass, their suffering ends but our's begins. Let love heal your heart and let her go when its time. Your veterinarian will be able to council you more on what to expect when the time comes.

  14. Hair loss isn't good. You should go to a vet. They will know best. But 18 is old for a cat. And I hate to say this, but Midnight may be near the end of his days. But know this: Spend your time wisely with Midnight before you take him to a vet. If your cat is suffering, it may be best to put him down. And although I sound like a jerk right know, just think about how the cat feels. I am truly sorry that your cat is experiencing this, and I am even sorrier for the way you feel about your cat. After 13 years with that cat you must be attached to the cat. I hope that your cat will be okay and I hope that you don't get too worried.

  15. no let him live

  16. I would take her to the vet to see if they can help her. If they determine that there is nothing they can do to help her and it is a serious problem, I would probably put her to sleep so that she won't have to suffer anymore.

  17. Poor thing!Don't put her to sleep though! When her time comes, she will pass on!

  18. I'd take the cat to the vet and have a general checkup. Sounds like the cat is pretty old. You want to think of quality of life, not quantity. The cat could jsut be old, and perfectly healthy. If there is nothing wrong with the cat, I wouldn't. Pets are family members. If you had a brother in this condition what would you do?

  19. You should consult your vet and have him make an assessment of your cat's health and make a decision from there.  Fleas are totally fixable and the incontinence in some cases can be treated.

A geriatric check-up will tell if there are things you can do to make this cat's life better or whether she has health problems so severe that they cannot be reasonably treated.

You owe her that much and it will make the decision more clear.

  20. Like everyone has said, take her to the vet and they will recommend whats best to do.

  21. Take her to the vet and get her checked out to see what the vets suggestion is.  It could be a simple fix her problem, or he/she may recommend she be put to sleep.

Poor kitty.  I pray that everything works out as it should.

  22. you should put your cat to sleep because if you don't than your cat will be suffering a lot and I think you want your cat to be in a happy place. And not suffering.

  23. I say get her checked out by the vet.  If there isn't something seriously wrong with her, I would try to make her as comfortable as possible for her last years.  She's obviously very old and needs more love and attention than before.

  24. Have you been changing the litter a couple times a week? It could be kidney failure. It's really sad to hear this. Don't put her down unless the vet feels its absoluley necessary. Pay attention to her. She may be dying on her own and may need to rest in peace. I have three of my own but never have they been 18 or older. Just don't put it down unless it's really suffering.

    R

  25. ask the vet.   get their opinion....

(sometimes it costs a lot to have them put down

so find out what to expect)

  26. If you believe that your pet is in serious pain then it may be time...

  27. well the peeing probably means diabetes. Talk to your vet about your options and see what he/she says. If the cat is in real pain you probably should.

  28. Have you taken her to a doctor? They'll have the best opinion on what to do with your cat.

  29. im sorry but put her down cuz its suffering and wat would make him happy?

it would be almost selfish not to

  30. did the vet say you had to??? thats not a good idea AT ALL. take it to a vet.

  31. No you shouldnt.

If she is in a lot of pain then maybe you should.
