I am wanting to put my kid in head start, but I have kind of having second thoughts. I have never had anyone else watch my child besides family. I am kinda scared actually. Will I be able to view the class room and playground, meet the teachers before the first day of school? Do/can I stay with my child on the first day? What if I dont like it...can I pull my child out? What are the hours? I know...so many questions that I should just ask the right people....but I am just curious right now and would like to know any info you have....

  2. Head start is great.  Where  I am you can meet the teacher, and see the classroom and playground before school starts.  You can pull the child out after it starts.  The hours are 2-3 half days a week for 3 yr olds, hours are 8:30-11:30 and the 4 yr. olds go 5 days a week same hours for morning sessions which I recommend.  Afternoons the kids are just too tired.  Afternoons are usually 1:00-4:00 or there abouts, some programs are 2.5 hours a day.  You can not stay the first day, they want the kids to transition and with you there they won't.  What you could do is after dropping off your child call after 10-15 minutes to see if your child is adjusting.  When my kids started at this age they cried intermittantly for the first 2-3 weeks, then they loved it

  3. Head Start is wonderful. Your child will love it. You will get to tour the place and meet the teachers. Every area has their own hours and routines. Most encourage parents to volunteer in the room so you will be able to see how the classroom works. Some even offer part time jobs to Mom's during the school year and hours.
