Question:

Should I put my new platy in an isolation tank?

I recently bought a new fish from Petsmart, ( about a day ago), she is a sunburst platy. My other male platy that I had for 2 months is chasing and nipping her occasionally, about once every minute. She is really fast, and able to get away from the male, but she looks pregnant. She has a small red patch, which looks like a red gravid spot. Should I put her in a isolation tank? I can't provide a picture but it's just like a red patch inside of her.

Oh yeah, she is also 1 inch long if that helps for some reason. And sometimes she floats in a corner of the tank not doing anything but breathing, until the male nips her.

  1. It sounds to me like she is pregnant, I would separate her for a few days and see what happens.

  2. seperate she may very well be pregnant

  3. i would say the bumps are natural

but dont put her in a isolation tank yet she's not that fat

and unless the male is constantly nipping her (ex. once a second)

i would just leave her alone unless it is serious damage

i think that the male is trying to get her to breed with him
