OK im about to go into my sophmore year playing football.

I played as freshman on the Freshman football team and I played receiver.

I did not start, i was a 2nd string receiver. I did start a few games do to the starter not being able to play.

But this year Im a 3rd string receiver on JV. My coach (who is the head coach, Athletic Director, receivers coach) doesnt really like me that much. He b*****s at me for ever thing i do wrong. Its almost funny. He will be like "hey go get me that ball over there (its across the entire field) on the hop, on the hop".

He critisizes every little thing i do. IF the quarterback throws me a terrible pass and i dive and dont catch it hes like "come on catch the ball". He critisizes my routes saying i dont run them very good. Pretty much if something is not perfect, he has to say something.

We have had 20 practices (2 adays are over now that school is about to start) and he has given me 2 compliments/non-negative things.

And they are "good spot". "that a-boi, good catch". thats all he has said that hasnt been negative in 20 practices.

Our practices including meeetings last almost 4 hours. so instead of getting my *** bitched out i could be chilling at home.

I have a feeling i wont play much this year, if any at all. And it doesnt help that basically the head coach/AD/Receiver coach doesnt really like me.

I like playing and i want to keep playing. But I have to wonder if its worth it?

Do yall think its worth all this **** to stand on the sidelines. My motto has been "If I dont start, it doesnt matter". Because it is true if you dont start its not fun. h**l people that start even say its no fun just because of all the work you put in for a 2 month season. The only good that comes out of it is being with friends, having some fun, going out to eat after mornining 2 adays, getting a jersey, and saying you are on the team.

Should i quit or just stick with it. If all my friends didnt play i definately would quit

???

  1. just quit, you wont even get to play unless they get injured, id change schools just to play your old team and shut them up.

  2. alright, my coach always says that every person on the team is important to making a team successful. he preaches that everyone that has started on varsity has had to play scout offense or defense. i know it sucks and its the worst thing in the world, but they're not going to have you start every game unless you show them that you are good enough to start. besides, if you stick to it you WILL get better. but that's all up to you. my team has had 10 people quit over the summer because they were sick of it, and they were all second string or starters on varsity. crazy, right? we're having trouble trying to fill those positions. and remember, YOU can be the surprise of the season. the WILL to PREPARE to WIN is more important than the WILL to WIN

  3. If you don't seem to be catching the ball all that well, have you thought of switching to defense? Maybe as a DB?

  4. Any time we blame others for our circumstance we remove our opportunity to change it.

  5. I coach football at a younger age but I think I could help. Don't quit, not yet. You said you enjoy it, so you only have 2 more years you can play unless you play in college. Ask your coach if you can talk to him after pratice. Ask him, "Coach what do I have to work on to get more playing time?". Be prepared for the truth...as you may not like it. Try to set some resonable goals for yourself with him. Ask for some drills you can do at home to improve what your weak at.  Ask him if you achive these goals if it will effect your playing time? Listen to what he has to say. Make sure you not being a pain in the a$$ at pratice or anything like that. Than bust your butt to get it done. If he dosen't change the way he is treating after a couple of weeks of you busting your butt, than he has a chip on his sholder for some reason and you did everything you could. Than you may quit and come play for us (or try lacrosse another great sport).

    Good luck....Coach P
