Question:

Should I quit football?

Well I play linebacker at a pretty big school and right now I'm second string.....

That woulden't really be a problem, but the guy ahead of me is a Commit to The Univeristy of Oregon (his dad is a coach and pulls strings if you know what I mean). Me and him are about even, I'm smarter and hustle to the ball, but he's lazy, not really a team player (always shows up late, whines, complains), but he's also more atheletic (he looks like a football player....6'2 220)

I'm not gonna go to practice every day and work my butt off just so I can sit on the bench because the coach is on the other guys nuts.

What would you guys do in this situation

  1. If you don't have career aspirations, and you're not having fun, yeah quit. There must be other things you could be doing.

  2. i would go to a diff. school

P.S. that sucks i really hope this whole thing works out for you whether you take my advice or not.

  3. I'd quit, cause obviously your not going to play because his dad is the coach. which leads to another issue that i strongly believe in. i dont believe parents should be aloud to coach because of favoritism. either that or tell the coach to get you into a different position that you can honestly compete for, and let him know that if he dont, then your quitting the team.

  4. Look, i play football popwarner but that is happening to me right now but i have two of those right now in QB but don't quit man!

remember preist holmes and larry johnson in kansas city?

remember ben mauk and riley skinner in wake forest?

what if right after you quit he gets hurt?

it will haunt you for most of life boy!

like tom petty said i will not back down!

                       stay on the team

  5. If you love the sport then play you only live once and ohh when you say, "I'm not gonna go to practice every day and work my butt off just so I can sit on the bench because the coach is on the other guys nuts."

your not being committed you need to be committed id say play but your choice.. good luck bro

  6. If your even the coaches son wins the tie breaker. f you want to start you need to be better than him

  7. h**l No Man U SHould Not Quit football foo wat the h**l wrong w u man u will get stronger and bigger playin football so later on no ************ will **** w u man!!!

  8. i would talk to the coach about this. if it isnt worth playing and you dont have a good time and the coach doesnt budge, then i would quit. he isnt worth your time if he will treat you like that

  9. talk to the coach

and decide how much u like football to stick with it

  10. I know this may sound crazy but just pull the coach aside and tell him how you feel i know he is the father of the other player , telling him how you feel may get you more playing time b/c i dont care who the coach is regardless who his kid is he (the coach ) wants football players And im sure you dont run a defense with only 1 line backer . you either run a 3-4 or a 4-4 in high school maybe even a 5-2 so there just might be enough room for both of you . But there wont be if you do not tell the coach how you feel

  11. talk to the coach about the problem in a friendly manner.  if he does not change it. then tell him you had a fun time in football and leave. BE HONEST it is the best way to make him change his mind

  12. I'm not sure if you should quit or not but you definitely shouldn't come here looking for sympathy.

If this guy is an Oregon commitment and you and he are "about even" then you wouldn't be riding the pine.  Your coach would've found a role for you on the team.

  13. being on the football team will get you laid more than if you weren't.....

    think about that broseph

  14. i would stick with it.  When you get older and look back on your football experience do you want to remember it as the time you gave half effort?  Try your hardest and stick it out.

  15. Are you a senior?? If you're not then I wouldn't worry about it. If I were you I'd keep on playing and working hard like you do. You never no this guy could get hurt then you're next in line for the starting job. It will be your chance to shine and show everyone what you can do!! You might even land yourself a football scholarship. If you quit that will never happen, so don't quit whatever you do.

  16. No keep at it! Why should all your effort go to waste? Try and talk to your coach about it.

  17. if you really love the sport, it would stupid to quit. But I understand what you mean, what's the point of playing if your just going to sit?

maybe quit and try another sport? like tennis, cross, soccer, or whatever esle you have going at your school.

  18. keep working hard, maybe talk to one of the other coaches and tell them to watch that other kid a bit more. most coaches would rather take a player that works hard and isn't very good than a player that doesn't work hard that is good

  19. I don't blame you.  I could have played football in high school but I preferred to sit in the stands and watch the game with the jock's girlfriends.  Ha Ha...I got further with them with my sense of humor than they did with their football glory.

  20. yes

  21. There's always two side to a story,so far you've told your side, and quite frankly, this story has been told before, many players think they're better than the other guy that's playing, that's happened in High school, college and professional sports

  22. Most teams have at least three linebackers.  Hang in there.  If you are really all that you say you are you will get noticed.  Don't turn into this guy and be a whiner though.

  23. F that dude and the couch. I guarantee that if you work like you say you do somebody is watching you. Just do you (work hard, play hard) and don't worry about him, you will be fine. when those souts come they will be looking for good players and that means you! If you still feel like it is pointless then consider leaving. But if you are a good player and have a love for the game I say stay and show em' what cha got!

  24. dont quit if u really luv it!!

push urself to the  frunt.make the coach notice u!

if he pulls u aside and talks to u about trying to hard, b lyk"well i wouldn't have to if u would just look at me and the others and notice us for what we're for!" but say it nicely and make urself look like the victim.

    worked for me in school!

  25. talk to the coach tell him how u feel if nothing changes in 3 months quit

but work as hard as u can after u talk to ur coach

  26. You only fail, when you fall down,

and "don't" get right back up. Stand your ground. <}:-})

  27. move to a diff. position.

  28. this may sound weird coming from a girl but... if ur happy with being on the team then stay if ur not quit.

Oh BTW i was the QB in middle school! (2 hand touch) so i know about this stuff

  29. is it something u really wanna do? if yes then carry on or just find another team in the area

i dont know what country ur from(im english )

but well here its not that hard if u dont wanna play for school etc just find another club around and that might work out since u sound really good and the guy is just a loser anyway :P

    xoxo

  30. What if he gets hurt? You don't sound like a team player. You should not quit if you like to play.

  31. i would say keep playing football and talk to the coach or principal about it.
