Should I quit my job? ?

I'm a college student and I have a part time job at the movies. I have 1yr and a half and I'm already frustrated working there. I'm getting paid minimum wage, the work hours are terrible I never leave at my scheduled time most of the time I end up staying over time, plus my co workers are lazy. I really want to leave but I have bills to pay, tuition fees, and books to buy for the new semester. The only good thing about this job is my work schedule they work well with my availability days. I've been considering putting in applications as a teacher substitute (I'm an Edu. major) but I would only be able to work 3 days of the week because of my classes. It's good money but I would be limited. My next choice would either Ticketmaster or some other retail store.

What should I do? Put in my two week notice or just stay there?

-thanks

  1. Well, don't leave until you've got something else lined up.

Substitute teaching is not a given.  My husband did it for a little over a year and may have worked about a month out of the school year altogether.  Plus (don't know how rates are where you live) he only earned about $75/day.  It would be hard to fit "are you available?" around classes, too.  Not to mention, if you keep not being available, the schedulers can stop calling, and probably will.

Something with extended hours (24-hour grocery store) might give you more flexibility.  Can't guarantee the environment will be any better, but that's true no matter what the job is, sadly.

You might want to stick it out where you are. Your employers work with you on scheduling and that means a lot; a lot of companies won't. Whatever you decide, be sure you know all the fine points.  I know someone who got hired in a clothing store (think Limited or something like that).  They had a clothing discount, but they were expected to buy the store's clothes and wear them to work.  Would kind of cut into a budget/paycheck.

  2. Whenever i got a parttime job I always picked one that would help me out somehow. Such as retail clothing stores. Pick your favorite clothing store or dept store and work there. You get a nice discount on clothes and so you get paid and save money buying what you need (clothes).

OR you could work at your college. Usually colleges need help in the registrars office registering students, especially in the beginning of every semester. They have great jobs right on campus usually. And you usually get paid a little more than min. wage. And you are right on campus so it makes it easy to go to class and get to your job. Go to your college's website and look at the job openings online and apply. Or call your colleges main phone number and ask for the HR dept or whoever you can speak to about getting a campus job.
