Should I quit or give it another go?

I am slightly overweight. Not to much but enough I decided to get more active and deal with it. Being 16 my parents still have some say in what I do. They suggested I do cross country. My brother does it and my dad loves to run. I went to my first practice yesterday and hated it. This may be due too the fact I am a bit out of shape (I do play other sports other times of the year though) but still. I have heard running takes time to love and getting past "the wall" is the hardest but the best once you do. But I really didn't like it and their are other sports I can do. So am I a wimp if I quit or should I do what I want?

  1. Quit it and play badminton. It's fun and it excersises your legs and arms.

  2. Trust me almost everybody hates the first day of X-C. Then there are people like me that have been waiting for X-C ever since track ended. But after a while you get used to running basically every day. Just DO NOT give up!Just do it!!! good luck!

  3. i think you should just continue with it for a little bit more to get to know the sport a little better.  I remember the first few weeks of xc I hated it.  Well I did have a sort of love/hate thing throughout the whole season but when I was done with the season, I had no regrets of staying.  What kept me in the sport are friends.  They'll make any sport a lot more fun.  Also, my cross country team has very very nice people so it made me want to stay.

I agree, you do have to get passed that wall.  When I switched from sprinting to long distance, I had a lot of trouble adjusting.   The pacing and enormous amounts of mileage along with the long, beating practices.  But once I learned to fight the pain it felt great.  It's a wonderful feeling to complete your first 5 mile run.  Then 7 mile run.  Then 10 and so on.  Once you get the hang of xc, it's a great reward.  And the sport is all you.  You and your running shoes.  It's amazing what your body can do.

  4. Quit it.

I weigh 220 pounds and im overweight.

My doctor recommended I should do cross country at school.

I complied and I hated it.

I quit it after a week.

I do weight training now, which i love.

    I lost 40 pounds in a month. :)

  5. As much as I hated cross country, it helped me get in shape. It took time but I was finally able to run 2 miles without stopping. I thought it would never happen (and I was never very fast). You might stick with it for at least one season so that you will be in better shape to be really good at another sport you are better interested in.
