Should I quit!!!!?!?!

Its my freshmen year and I'm playing High School football. The coaches said at the start of the year we would get to try out for a position. Now I ran one of the fastest 40s on the freshmen roster and ran the fastest shuttle time on the freshmen roster. I scored in the top 10 for the lifting events when we did our combine. Now I went to all the optional lifting sessions during the summer. Hardly any freshmen went. Most sat on there *** and did nothing until the first required practice came around. I worked my butt off. Now I go to the first practice and say that I'm trying out for running back and he tells me no and tells me I'm playing DT. How does the fastest player on the team get stuck at DT?!?!?!? The kids that sat on there *** walk in and just get to play Runningback. Im only 5 foot 7 and only weigh 170 pounds. I asked him why im at DT and tells me to stop complaining. Should I quit? This coach is a moron. I worked my butt off all summer for nothing. I love football but this is BS.

  1. Depending on the size of your school district I guess.  If you have a small student body then your coach will have a difficult time filling every position the way he or the players would like them to be.  At 67" 170lbs you might be the strongest person he has to fill the DT spot.  Besides you are still very young and I would imagine that you will still grow a few inches taller and if you diet correctly and become a gym rat you can easily get up near the 200lb if not more.  And I understand that you might have been the fastest freshman in the 40 and shuttle run but sprints aren't the only requirement to be a quality running-back.  Not saying that you wouldn't become one of the best, but keep with it and see where this takes you bud. Personally I would slot you as a safety by your description of yourself.  But then again i'm not the coach.  And remember this, most O linemen are slow on their feet at that level because that is where the tall fat kids get put you should be able to blow by them easily. Good luck this season.

  2. Quit already. Make room for the kids who want to play. Stop whining for crying out loud! Play where the coach tells you to play or go home and sit on your butt! I am tired of all these kids who believe that they are entitled to whatever position they want! If you were running back material then the Coach would have put you there! Stop blubbering like a little girl, suck it up and hit somebody really hard, or quit. Those are your choices young man. It's a hard world and it is never fair.

  3. Please quit and stop wasting our time!

Life is never fair...you deal with it or you don't.  If you have quit in your blood, go ahead, do it.  But if you want to be strong, stay on the team and keep performing at your best.  If you are good enough, you will get on the field plenty, but not if you have an attitude about it.

Yes, coaches can be morons, but you have to adapt and overcome.  Keep your mouth shut and do whatever you are told better than the next guy...if you have talent, it will not be denied.

  4. I really wish I had a good answer for you. Did you Play Rec Football ? Coaches sometimes go with the known players from pop-warner teams.

Do you have an old coach who can vouch for you?

Stick it out and be the best DT you can. Favre was on the bench when he started in the NFL and was told he would not get a chance to play unless someone got hurt.Look what happened  to him.

  5. Not every player on the team can be a qb, rb or wr. If it was up to the kids playing there would be 10 qbs and 18 rbs with 12 wrs. My freshman year I was 5'6" 150 and ran the 40 in 4.6 seconds. I ended up playing left guard and nose tackle. I started all 4 years of high school and ended up in college. When I was going to my first practice my freshman year I was sure they would play me at rb or wr to. Because my coach saw that I was strong and fast he put me at nose guard that put me in college. If I was you I would just be happy that I was playing such a great sport.

  6. This sounds really cliche, I know, but you have to use this as motivation to work even harder.

If you really love the game, though, you'll play just to play, I think.

  7. If you truly worked your butt off, then those that just sat on theyre *** will get what they deserve in the long run.You will get your chance to succeed. We all have our chance, but make sure to make the most of it when the time comes.Do not quit, and may your dream of becoming a running back come true.

  8. think about it a fast kid playing dt man you have any ideas how many sacks you could get. and it looks like your strong to and thats probably why. Besides im sure they are all set a tailback. I see alot of fast kids play dt and there good.

  9. defensive tackle rocks!

listen to your coach and quit your whinning.

Just being fast does not mean that you'll be a good running back but fast defensive lineman are rare.

Eat your Wheaties and learn your new position, you'll eventually like DT.

    trust me

  10. talk to ur coach say ur going to quit if he dosent change ur position if he says no and u really like football dont quitthat is up to u

  11. idk man  i think u should have a sit down talk wit coach and tell him u want to play runningback and if he doesn't listen. QUIT by all means.!

  12. Well your coach probably thinks you would do better as a DT. Look at it this way, there has been many professional football players who really wanted to play as a specific position because they have done great at it but their coaches tells them they will be playing another position and few years later they're thanking their coach for doing so.

  13. 5ft 7in and 170lbs? That sounds a bit heavy. And don't just quit. You might get your chance once you prove yourself.

  14. I really  think you should stick with it.  You are going to run in to A LOT of people like that in your life.  You can use this as a motive to strive for the position you want.  It will teach you how to learn how to cope with these types of individuals in the future.  It will also look good on your college application that you committed to something.
