I'm a 14 years old girl and I really like many poems by Mary Angelou.

Now I want to read her book, "I know why the caged bird sings".

thing is I'm a bit "ick" about how 'heavy' it will be and to be honest, how "stiff and tiresome" it could be for 14 years old girl. :p sounds silly I know. but I just want to know. could this book be inspiring yet interesting for 14 years old?

  1. NO

  2. It's not at all 'heavy' whatever that's meant to mean.

It's a wonderful book and not too difficult to read. Fourteen is the perfect age to start reading some adult books and expanding your horizons as far as literature goes.

The rest of the series are also very good.

  3. Don't really like Angelou's poetry to be honest, although our teacher recommended we read the book. I haven't yet.

  4. You HAVE to read it, but I agree it's probably too heavy for you right now. It's quite grim and depressing at times, but it uses that grimness to become uplifting. I think you will appreciate it better after a couple of years.

  5. How bout you give it a shot, and if it gets too "stiff and tiresome" then...stop?
