I am trying to decide the best kind of bottle to get for our son, due in september. I am looking at dr. brown's, born free, and sassy mam. Sassy and born free are bpa free. Dr. brown's glass bottles are bpa free and now they have plastic ones that are bpa free, but they only come in 8 or 9 oz. What bottles are you using and do you think we should really be concerend about bpa? Thanks.

  1. I used the Parent's Choice BPA free bottles. They come in four ounce or eight ounce bottles. Canada banned BPA from baby products and if it's dangerous to Canadian babies, I think it's dangerous to my baby, too.  BPA is in pacifiers, bottles and formula cans. I didn't want to expose her to anything that I don't have to so I don't. The FDA hasn't banned it, though and has no intention of doing so. It's really what you think is best.

  2. i am in the US but i say, if it's banned in Canada then it must be pretty dangerous so i would go with BPA free bottles.   i use born free because when i got bottles there weren't many BPA free bottles, sounds like there are more now.

    (FYI - 8 or 9 oz bottles are actually better, don't bother with the small 4 or 5 oz bottles it's a waste of money, the baby will outgrow them quick and you'll need more of the bigger bottles anyway and will use them longer.  there is no need for the small bottles, they aren't any worse than a bigger 8 or 9 oz bottle for a newborn. if i were to do it over i wouldn't buy any small bottles, only the big bottles.)

  3. I just got the playtex nurser drop ins.  That way you dont have to worry at all.

  4. i switched to glass bottles after reading about BPA... I think it is definatley something to be concerned about. it can cause early puberty in girls and breast development in boys...

    i also live in Canada and returned all my playtex bottles because of the recalls

  5. The Dr. Brown bottles are amazing! We used them from day one. Stores such as BabiesRUs, Walmart, and Target are beginning to remove BPA baby products from their shelves so I would say yes.. you should be concerned about BPA.

    I was in BabiesRUs today and they have a Dr. Brown Deluxe Gift Set that includes:

    6-8oz bottles;

    4-4oz bottles;

    2-2oz bottles;

    12-Level 1 nipples;

    4-Level 2 nipples;

    4-Level 3 nipples;

    4-Y cut nipples;

    6 Storage Caps;

    6 Cleaning Brushes;

    a $81.91 Value all BPA free. An amazing deal! Everything you need to get started and more.

    It cost 49.99 at BabiesRUs. They said they had just very recently gotten them on the shelves so I would think that Dr. Brown is about to come out with individual or 3 packaged 4 oz bottles that are BPA free. Everywhere I shop the Dr. Brown BPA free bottles are beginning to fill up the space where the BPA bottles were. They are slowly disappearing.

    All of the moms I know use Dr. Brown bottles.

    The Dr. Brown standard (not wide neck) bottles are the best because they fit better in bottle coolers and warmers than the born free.

    I've never used and I don't know anyone who uses the Sassy Mam.

    Congratulations on your little one! : )

    Oh and the BPA bottles are the same price as the BPA free bottles and it's always better to be safe than sorry..

    edit: I've been looking around online tonight to see if I can get a better price on this package even though BabiesRUs does have a good price... but I can't find it online yet.. I guess that's how new it is. I will post a website link if I can find one.

  6. I live in Canada, and they have removed from all shelves (and gave credits and refunds for those who had bottles with BPA) and recalled ALL baby bottles containing BPA - if the Canadian Health Dept wont let them be sold I would say yes, you should worry about it and get ones that are BPA free!

  7. I'm in Canada and most stores here pulled the BPA containing bottles . Most people think that BPA only leaches into the milk when heated at high temperatures but the BPA still leaches at room temperature just not as high of a concentration.. I just don't want to take a chance and us bottles with BPA my son's health is more important. I use Glass Dr.Browns , The BPA free nuby bottles, I didn't bother with the 4 oz. bottles since they aren't used very long.
