  1. Downloading from the Internet on a PC can be risky, but as long as you take the necessary precautions of installing an antivirus/malware program, you will be fine. I work IT in an office of 300 users where pretty much all of them are downloading some random c**p each day (why did we give them admin rights!?) and so far, no viruses. It just takes a few precautionary measures.

  2. If you are petrified then refrain from downloading anything.Nevertheless,it is de facto that when downloading shall have a vast amount of virus, but not all have virus.Solely download from trusted sites.

  3. If  u have a virus blocker that is good, meaning one that u paid something for, then you should be fine, they are update those as often as possible...  it also depends on where you download from, downloading from Microsoft or Java, those types of respectable sites aren't going to have virus's. Al you need is a good, up to date virus blocker and you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

  4. No. I can't imagine using my computer without downloading anything. You are just being overprotective. You will not get a virus if you download lets say Mozilla Firefox because it is 100% virus free. However if your searching for a fixed exe or a serial number for a program then you might get a virus. So you just have to be careful what you download but it would be just moronic if you completely stop downloading.

  5. You can download anything from genuine sites, avoid pirated software, keygen, crack and serial sites. Whenever you download do scan it with an updated anti virus before opening or running it. Always keep your antivirus updated to prevent viruses from attacking your computer. Even if you dont download, whenever u visit a website, pages, images etc get downloaded automatically in background. So it is best to have a good antivirus and update it regularly.

  6. Honestly, you might as well not have a computer if you are afraid to download anything! Get yourself some good anti-virus software (check with your internet service provider, often they will give you one for free), and stick to downloading from reputable sites. For programs, I recommend using www.download.com. I have never had any problems from them. Try to remember that getting a virus is not the worst thing that could happen to your computer, dropping it on concrete or having it stolen are far worse fates! Burn backup copies of all important files (documents, music, photos, etc.) on a regular basis. That way, if you do get a virus, you can simply wipe your hardrive clean, re-install windows, and your files are still safe.

  7. The only way to completely safe of viruses - is to get rid of Windows & either buy a Mac - use any version of Linux - or unplug your internet connection and never use the internet.

Viruses dont just come from downloads - many questionable people, embed them in their websites - so just visiting a website can install a virus in the background.
