Should I remove the ceramic tile backsplash in my kitchen?

I am going to replace my aged Formica countertops with granite. I have a backsplash that is basic white shiny ceramic tile--should I keep this tile or should I tear it out? I have not seen any granite countertops paired with shiny ceramic tile--I think it would look odd. My countertop installers would be thrilled if I removed it all as they are not anxious to work around it. The granite will have a backsplash--the tile is 3 rows of it above it. What do you think I should do?. If I tear it out, what should I do to the backsplash?

A: tear it out and replace it with tile that matches the counter

B:tear it out and make the granite backsplash higher

C:tear it out and make it the same as the wall seen as u said the counter top has a backsplash

i would remove the white tile;  it dates the kitchen and you're apparantly ready for a change.  replace the drywall if needed.  have your counters installed, with the premade granite baclsplash then go for a tumbled marble backsplash (available at home depot, lowes, or your local tile distributor for about $5 per square foot.  chances are you wouldn't need more than 25-30 square feet.)  the tumbled marble on a diagonal with little stone or glass accent tiles strewn throughout is very trendy nowadays and looks great against the granite.  i don't like the painted drywall above the granite backsplash.  prone to grease and looks dingy with grime/grease in time.  good luck!

omg. get rid of the tile! you can't have granite with tile! as long as you have the granite backsplash, you are fine. it will look very nice if you have painted drywall behind the backsplash...very clean.
