Question:

Should I rent a car?

I am going to Ireland for two weeks this summer to visit my wife's family and sightsee. Several people have recommended renting a car but a few others have strongly suggested that as a bad idea. I'd like to hear about other people's experiences renting and driving a car all over Ireland.

  1. yes, theres too much to see. on foot will take to long. also my cousin conal lives there, so can you go meet him and tell him i said "HI"!!

  2. no take tours...you see more that way

  3. There is no doubt that renting a car is a great way to see Ireland, particularly if you plan to spend some of your time outside of Dublin. Renting a car gives you great freedom and traveling around Dublin by taxi can be very expensive. For me on a two week trip to Ireland, definitely rent a car for when you plan to travel outside Dublin. Thrifty Car Rental have a location in Dublin City Center that could be useful for you.

  4. If you are planning on staying in the Dublin area, a car for the whole two weeks is a bad idea, you won't use it that much and the public transport is a bit easier anyway, and you'll be paying to park a car that you've rented.

However, if you're going to be moving around the country, then a car is a good idea as the public transport is not very good outside of the Dublin area.

  5. We have **** roads, but beautifull countryside. My dvice is rent a car if you are travelling in the West of the Country only.
