Question:

Should I replace the circuit breakers and/or fuses in my dilapidated mobile home?

Only one circuit in the trailer works. I don't think there are any short circuits because about a month ago only one circuit was inoperable, and the rest were fine. The two kids that lived in the trailer before me didn't pay attention to amps or circuits--they were running two window a/c's in the same outlet, which must have been 30 or 40 amps. I only need one circuit to work. I would like to turn off the kitchen circuit (in order to cut power to the water heater, since I won't need it) but right now the kitchen circuit is the only one that works. I'm almost positive some of those circuits still conduct electricity, and if I replace the breaker I can get at least one of them to work.

As a side note, I ran a vacuum yesterday, which draws something like 8.5 amps. When I unplugged the extension cord, it was pretty warm. I think it might also be wise to install new outlets in whatever circuit I get going. Any advise from a professional or expert would be greatly appreciated.

  1. You need to get Electrician.   The extension cord is getting hot, because most likely it is not rated for 8.5 amps.  Check with your friends and see if they know a Electrician who will give you a good price.  I  wish, I good give you better advice, but don't take chance find a Electrician.

    Good Luck to you

  2. Your breaker box should have a main breaker which is most likely a 100 amp.It will be the breaker at the top of the box where the main wire run into your trailer from there the poles will be running up & down the box with different breaker in them. You might not have but one breaker on the poles, but the rest of the empty spot that holes the other breaker are very much hot .(Donot touch metal poles will kill you.)Why not just put another breaker in one of the empty spots. That will give you 110 volts , but if you need 220 volts then your going to need two breakersIf your wanting to make 110 volts then you need 1 hot wire & a ground To make 220 volts you need 2 hot wires & a ground. Be sure you understand this before you do anything.
