Question:

Should I report my neighbors to the H.O.A.??

My husband and myself are hard workers and had always lived in lower to middle class neighborhoos up until about a year ago. We finally moved into our dream home after working very hard to get there. It's in a beautiful, well kept, neighborhood with a strict H.O.A. Recently the house next door was sold as an investment property due to the crash in the market. It's been rented to a family who, from what I can tell, has moved in another family to split the rent. Which is a big no-no with leases! They leave c**p all over their yard, apparently they don't own shirts, and they are beyond loud! I'm talking, skill saws screeeching at 10:00 on a week night! They have yard sales, (which aren't permitted in this neighborhood), and block my driveway. It's getting really old! I hate to seem like the nosey, crotchidy, neighbor but this is getting ridiculous! I hate seeing everything we worked for going all to h**l. Should I report them to the H.O.A. or would that make me a*****e?

  1. HOA's exist for this very reason.

Having had to deal with one of these situations, here's my suggestions:

    -Document everything.  Take pictures.

-Read your HOA rules and regulations.

-Talk with your other neighbours; if you have several folks demanding action, this will help you.

-I wouldn't bother dealing with the renters; they're not on the hook, and 99% of the time, they don't give a c**p.

Quality of life is a huge issue; as you noted- you worked hard to get a home in a good neighbourhood; the rules that the HOA has apply to everyone.  The person that owns the home is responsible for ensuring that anyone living there follows the rules.  Which means this person will have to deal with his/her tenants.

Having dealt with renters in the past...generally you're dealing with people who don't give two scoots about anyone.

For me, I'd make the renters and the actual owner attend a meeting held by the HOA where rules and regulations are explained in detail, and establish eviction policies and draconian fines for violations (for both the owner and the tenants).

  2. It's amazing how completely the criminal mindset has permeated society to the point where decent people are more worried about "ratting out" than about doing the right thing!

Of COURSE you should report them to the HOA, and also to the police whenever they violate the law!  Get them out of there!  It's the RIGHT thing to do!  THEY are the problem, not YOU!

If you don't, you are part of the problem, and forfeit all right to complain.

    BTW, it's crotchety, not "crotchidy".

  3. I have that problem where I live to.  I say report them.  Granted I've only had to call police for the ******* who block my driveway so I can't get in or out, but if people can't respect other people's property then they should go back to the place that they came from, or wise up!  Unfortunately in today's society not many people respect other people or their belongings.

  4. i would report them and see if your HOA will keep your complaint anonymous. the point of an HOA is to maintain the integrity of the neighborhood which, in turn, keeps the value of your home from dropping.

think of it this way: if you ever plan on selling your home while those families are still renting the house, you will have a much tougher time since any potential buyer will see the junk in the yard and shirtless, loud people. just living next door to a house with an unkempt yard or construction can turn down even the most eager of buyers.

    your complaints aren't petty--you shouldn't feel guilty!

  5. if these people are showing you no consideration then you should have no problem with reporting them....surely other people in the neigbourhood have noted their behaviour too, its not nice to have to report people but you have your rights too.

  6. report them thats what the HOA is there for

  7. well dont let everything you two worked for just be for nothing. you have a right to complain. i deal with this everyday but my famliy doesnt have the guts to step up and report them. trash is left in my yard all the time, i live next to a Brat house (foster home) and we have dogs. our yard was connected to theirs and i always find bricks, trash and broken toys thrown over into our yard. its like i want to choke the life out of those brats. as for noise, i have a really good neighbor who's next door to us but her son is the one thats usually the loudest. everyday he would get in his car and play the loudest c**p to where everything in our house would vibrate. it is ridculous!!!! doesnt make any sense to sit in a car with music THAT loud. how do you even hear correctly? and he acts like hes choosing for the whole neighborhood to play the music. thats why we have individual houses for that.

they are invading your space and youre privacy. complain, if nobody doesnt, they'll think they are doing nothing wrong and will just continue

  8. I would . You pay to live in a beautiful community and follow the rules .They should too. We had to call the police on our neighbors for burning w/ a burn ban going on. It was on the news and a sign down the street .

    GOD BLESS

  9. OF COURSE YOU SHOULD REPORT THEM.

    Get the sub-letters OUT.

    And report every little violation.

They have almost destroyed the neighborhood already, and will not stop until they succeed in destroying it completely.

They are worthless bums , and they don't belong in a neighborhood that values the rule of law.

  10. Definitely report them.  That's what HOA's are there for.  Let them enforce the rules.  I have called on many of my neighbors, because we own and have for 17 years, and some of the houses around here are rentals, so those people have no interest in keeping the neighborhood nice, since they move all the time.  Good luck.

  11. Instead of reporting them, get after the HOA for not enforcing the rules.  If they still don't enforce the rules, cite specific incidences where your neighbors blatantly violate the rules.  That way you don't look like you are just trying to stick it to some neighbors that you don't like.  If you really want to get the HOA to do what they are supposed to, you could join the HOA board.  My dad didn't like his HOA so he became the president.  Now he conducts frequent inspections around the neighborhood so nobody is in gross violation.
