Question:

Should I report this to the police?

I was the victim of a minor assault last weekend (just some hair pulling and pushing around). The perpetrator is someone who has been threatening me with violence for some time. She is also stalking me, showing up wherever I go. What can I do? I am in the UK by the way, if that makes a difference!

  1. Assault is an offence. So are threats of violence.

She might need a reminder that the UK is a civilised country that follows the rule of law.

Edit: Ah. Just read the additional details. Sounds like you brought this upon yourself. Doesn't excuse her behaviour, but maybe you have learned a lesson.

  2. yes u should deff report her maybe that will stop the big bully!!!!

  3. Surely you do not need to be told, report it to the police, next it might be more that hair pulling and pushing.

  4. You should check the legal definition in your jurisdiction for assault.  Unless it does not require physical injury, you were not assaulted.  That's a requirement for assault here in the US.

Verbal threats to cause harm are not, in isolation chargeable, however the manner in which they were issued (repeatedly, over the phone, scartached into your car) can amount to harassment.  Stalking is also a crime, but one hard to prove.

"I wouldn't have said if it wasn't true."

If this were a libel case, you'd have the defense of truth.  However, in a criminal case, if the information, regardless of its truth, were especially hurtful and there was no reason to disclose it, a jury might feel sympathy for the accused.

  5. DUH!!!!!!!!

  6. Dont be stupid, You should report ANY Crime to the police.

  7. just read all of the answers and they all say yes don't be silly report it

  8. Yes you should phone the police, on the non emergency number and tell them about this.  They can log a history of what is happening and should things get worse they will be more likely to help you, because you have already made them aware of her.  They should be able to advise you too.  Maybe you could tell someone in your family, and then when the police come round, that person can be with you, for support. Good luck x

  9. Yes. One of the biggest problems in this country is unreported crime. Police cannot properly and adequately allocate resources if they do not know what crimes are happening or where. It makes it very difficult for them to budget appropriately.

Always report a crime, even if you don't really expect any action. As long as a crime is recorded, it will end up adding to a bigger picture for them to deal with.

  10. Keep a record of every time you see this person and of everything they say then report them to the police. It might take a while to build up enough evidence to prosecute and slap a restraining order on this person but believe me it will be worth it. This person obviously holds petty grudges and needs to be sorted out through the proper channels.

I was threatened and assaulted by an ex mate of my brothers 4 six months and the police took ages to come out when i reported him. They also had a warrant out for his arrest and they still took ages to arrest him. Since he was in court he has left me alone.

The best advice i can give you is keep reporting all incidents to the police, get the name of a specific officer who is dealing with the case and keep a record of every thing that happens.

  11. I would file a formal complaint at your local police department. That way there is written documentation that she has assaulted you (even if it was minor). Next time something happens to you, it may be major, and they will see where you filed a complaint against her for assault, and she will become their primary suspect to look at.

  12. well, yeah.  if the person is stalking you, then of course. you shouldn't be harassed by someone just because you said something about them.

  13. Talk to the Police without delay - she needs to be made aware that she is not allowed to do this.

  14. Of course you should report it to the authorities. No matter what the case , you shouldn't be assaulted by anyone  or stalked . These things can cause true fatality if neglected. There are so many people out there that think they can get away with anything. You must take a threat serious always(people snap ). Also advise your immediate family of whats going on , especially a friend. If in any case something goes wrong ,they know who to turn to .My best of luck. But, always watch your back , and trust no one accept your family .

    Hope all goes well.

  15. Firstly, if this person assaults you, you have to report it to the police immediately. You can however go to the police station and ask to speak to an officer that can give you advice. Don't get into a slagging match via friends as this will aggravate the situation. Keep a diary of what she says and does to you complete with names of any witnesses. Stalking is illegal in the UK and the police take it seriously, but make sure that you get all your facts straight without exaggeration. Best of luck.

  16. This is only going to get worse, def make a complaint at least it'll be on paper if she gets in trouble again, it really is pathetic but I would still have some concern over her behaviour especially with threats of violence

  17. yes get a restraing  order on her as_s what did you do too deserve it

people 2 sides to every story

  18. Your quote here  -"Perhaps the truth hurts".

Perhaps getting your hair pulled hurts too?

Don't say mean things about people and they won't pull your hair.

You and her need to have some sort of mediation before this gets out of control and leads to something more serious.  I predict that if you file a formal complaint against her that it won't just magically go away.

Sounds like you both need to grow up and settle this like adults.  Indeed, the truth hurts.

  19. OFCORSE!! girl you need to tell the police asap & get her outta your hair . you shouldnt have to put up with that no matter what you did to her.
