  1. It partly depends on what you are trying to tell us............what type of "busy" life?  When you say "not stable"......is this something that could "harm a little dog", or "could you forget to care/feed" your dog??

I'm just a little confused over certain things posted in your question.  I main concern is the proper care for a little dog/puppy.  Can you offer this to one?

Sorry, I'm just confused not knowing what you mean by several statments in your question.  But, I do wish you well.

Tallerfella AND Dr T.........are both actually right!   You do need to have time for the commitment, training, walks, and time spent.

  2. No, you should wait, a dog is a lifetime job for anyone..

you need to be stable, have a good home for the dog to come to, and be able to have lots of time to care and feed the dog, and make sure all of its needs are met.

if you have a busy lifestyle, then yes, you should wait, till you are sure you are ready, willing and able to care for a living, breathing little dog.

and the dog, well only you can decide on what breed to get, the dog has to fit your lifestyle, not just listening to people say get this breed or that breed....and its great you want to adopt one...but please

please be sure you and your home are ready to take this responsibility first.

you do not want to get a dog, and then, Oh, I don't have time for a dog and have to give it up, not only will you be heartbroken, but the dog as well, the dog will not understand why you are giving it up.......

    go to

    http:///www.americankennelclub.com

and research all the breeds, then decide and then go to a shelter or call your local dog rescue club in your area, and then and only then, when you are sure, take on the responsibility of taking a life to care for...and I am with Pilot, your question does not fully explain your busy life or if your ready or not..

    good luck

  3. i'd wait. dogs are people animals. you will have a much better friend if he grows up in your presence.

  4. rescue the doggy!

you really should it deserves a good home please don't wait!

  5. I'd save one! Adopt one trust me you will not regret it

  6. If you don't have time for YOU, you certainly will not have time to train a new dog.

maybe a cat? Low maintenance and they need homes as well........

  7. First, take a breath.   You adopt a dog or puppy, because you want to care for and have the dog for a long time.  Having a fast paced life isn't a great time for getting a dog.  Also, if and when you do- get a dog that will YOU will match his/her temperment/exercise style.  Getting a dog is a very big decision.

  8. i fully endorse rescuing. BUT!! they are a full time PERMANENT commitment.

talk to a shelter worker and get their feedback.

the time you would need to spend on your own dog, maybe you could volunteer at a nearby shelter.

and while you're there, you new FUREVER friend might speak to your heart.

and perhaps consider adopting a cat. they're not quite as needy as a dog.

  9. This is a great website with a qustioner in finding the right purebred for you

    http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/search.htm

If you want to go to the shelter that is always a wonderful option considering thousands of un-wanted dogs die each year in shelters.

I would look for something not too shy or skittish or that might result in seperation anxiety. No dog too high strung or hyper or you might have destruction on your hands.

A calm and freindly dog that is maybe older in the range of 4-6 years is a good rout to go.

If you are still unsure, its ok to think about it while longer until you make a decision.

If you do go to a shelter its also ok to look on a weekly basis until that perfect dog just 'pops' out at you and says, 'take me home'

    Good luck on your decision

P.S. Have you considered a cat also?

  10. If you are not  home very much right now due to your schedule you may just want to wait to get a pup until you are settled more.

Only because a dog can also bring ALOT of responsiblity. Like cleaning up poo, vet visits and many other things that  a busy person can get frustrated with.

It really just depends on you and what you can handle and your personality.

there are a lot of dogs that need to be resuced.

If you have time and patience then go for it.

If not then I would wait so that you don't end up frustrated and having to rehome the dog.

I would wait a few weeks and think about it.  And if you still want to do it in a few weeks then you probablly should.
