Question:

Should I reserve ferry transport from Galway to the Aran Isles a week ahead of time?

I will be in Galway for two nights, and haven't exactly decided if I want to make a one-day excursion to the Island, so I would like to know if I can decide that at the last minute, or must I reserve?

Also, if you feel generous, could you tell me if this sounds unreasonable for a ten-day trip to Ireland: One night in Dublin (been there before) driving to one night in Youghal, two nights in the Dingle, Pen., two in Galway, one in Clonbur, one in Athlone, one in Slone (close to Newgrange and last stop before dropping rented car off at Dublin airport and heading out).

  1. The longest leg of the journey is Dublin to Youghal,  the rest seem easy enough.

The roads around the Dingle Peninsula are quite tricky so be careful.

Most visitors are shocked when they realize that we drive on the left side of the road, and the drivers seat is in the US passengers side. It can be quite daunting if you are inexperienced, so take it easy.

Would not bother pre booking the ferry, it's never full.

Newgrange will blow you away. Don't miss it.

  2. Did you mean to let us know the overall cost of your package-holiday? Did you mean Slane?

You should definitely book in advance:

  3. yes

  4. The truth is i've been to the aran every year for the last 7 years ,sometimes twice a year and i have not once booked in advance and have never had a problem yet, theres always room on the ferry and a few go each day during peak season, your best bet is to pop in to the island ferries office (its just off eyre suare) the day before you plan to go and enquire about ferry times and purchase your tickets. or if you like there also a tiny aircraft air arann that'll pop u over although its quite expensive.

  5. of course you must reserve it (sry if my Englesh is bad ^^)
