Question:

Should I return to the rugby field?

I'm wondering if there are any specialists out there who can give me their opinion on an injury. I pay rugby and 2 seasons ago I broke my arm, badly! Had an operation to fix it and now have a metal plate and some screws in there. All went fine and I went back playing last season only to break the same arm in January of this year. Although the arm wasn't weakened by the first break it was indirectly the cause of the second as the collision occurred on the plate which caused the bone to break. The question is, should I return to the game I love, and miss, or should I call it a day and hang up my boots? I am only 26 so age wise have a few years left in me.

  1. I hope they give you good news at the doctors office about playing again. I feel sorry for you having to make the decision, since I know how much my Rugby family means to me.  But if you get bad news and decide not to play, I know that people still hang out with our Rugby team who can't play anymore and we love to have them. So I quess what I am saying is even if you can't play still come out any enjoy your rugby family. I am sure that arm is strong enough to chug the beer after the game. Good luck and don't give up your Rugby family.

  2. I will be honest with you here and tell you in my opinion there is no where near enough information here for a person to make an informative or accurate answer to your question.

Ultimately  it is your decision down to you, good luck with what ever you decide.Go the Wallabies.

  3. Take it easy, mate. As an amateur player myself, I can understand the frustration of being sidelined by an injury. But getting back too early can cost dearly, as you'll end up spending even more time out.

So, follow your doctor's advise, do physiotheraphy, focus on fitness. So when you heal completely, you'll be 100% and enjoy the comeback even more. You're still young, and you've got years of good rugby still ahead.

In the meantime, try coaching kids...it can give you great satisfaction!

  4. If you have a plate in there, then I would recommend you get some arm armour to soften the collision impact. Lots of players wear them. Here is a selection for an example. http://www.rugbywarehouse.co.uk/acatalog...

  5. Im no specialist but ive had two broken femurs a tibia and fibula and still enjoy playing.  People who are passionate about football dont really hope for a specialist to tell them not to play? If you really want to play you will.
