Should I run Bitstream or Linear PCM on my PS3 with the current update to the PS3 system?

Question

I have a Pioneer 710 receiver to which I am running an Optical Cable from the PS3 to the receiver.

I'm looking for mostly good surround sound with blu-ray movies etc.

Any help into this, is greatly appreciated.

Does your Pioneer receiver can receive LPCM format and HDMI input? You can't send LPCM through optical cable due to the limitations. You need a HDMI receiver to receive LPCM. If you only can use optical option, you have no choice but to choose bit stream to get surround sound.

Linear PCM is usually only 2-ch stereo
