Question:

Should I run twice a day?

I am training for the cross country season and I am wondering if I should run a 4.5 mile run in the morning and a 5 mile run in the afternoon or do a 6-7 mile run once a day. I am a fifteen year old girl and will be in tenth grade next year.

  1. what ever u have tim for. dont push ur self too hard or u coul get hurt. drink lots of fluids and eat well too. try to have fun running!!!!!!!!!

  2. I run cross country, and you should not run twice a day.  You should be building up your endurance and cardio during the summer.  Aim for 25 miles a week.  Towards the end of summer you can work on different things, but for right now do long runs with hills to build up.

  3. If you are not running at least 6-7 times per day, for at least 8 miles each time, then I wouldn't even bother going out for the cross country team.

  4. If you do the 6-7 mile run once a day then it will be better for you aerobically and build up your endurance more than say two a day runs of a greater total mileage...however, the two runs a day of less individual distance will not be as taxing on your body and will help you recover better.  I would say go for the 6-7 milers once per day, but maybe experience for a month of single runs and then a month of double runs to see which you prefer.

  5. Run the 6-7 miles once a day to help build endurance.  Try to run a speed workout once a week, like 10 quarters with a 2 minute rest in between.  Maybe run 10 hills once a week too, that will help build strength and you won't get bored doing the same training every day.

  6. Run a more respectable run (the type you would normally do if you were running once a day) and then if you would like to double up, go for an easy recovery run at night, 3 miles or maybe more if you're feeling up to it.

But if you don't feel up to it, run once a day or even take the day off. I don't think doubling 7 days a week is beneficial, so do it maybe 3 or 4 days a week.

  7. idk do wat u wantt

  8. Yeh but make sure you drink lots of water and eat healthy.

  9. do it all in one run, it is better. If you want to run twice a day you can run for 15-20 min in the morning and stretch out really well and do drills. It helps/

  10. Assuming you are doing all these miles at the same intensity, you will get a bigger benefit from the 2 runs.

A lot of people break up runs into a morning/afternoon run.  It will give you nearly the same value for endurance, but is a little more managable.
