Should I seal my asplate driveway?

I just moved into a over 55 community of single homes.They tell me its a waste of money to seal driveways.I used to seal my driveways in my last home every 3 to 5 years.Was I wrong or are they right?

  1. You are right. It's a lot cheaper to seal a driveway than to have it tore up and replaced. The idea of resealing is to protect it. A driveway which is resealed every 3-5 years last much ...much longer than one that is not.


  2. Do you get snow and ice? Its a good idea to seal the cracks because water will get in them, freeze, expand and damage your driveway...as far as sealcoating i think its more for aesthetics in a home driveway. Definitely seal those cracks though to preserve your asphalt.
