Should I sell my ihome to buy a digital camera?

I am 14 and I do not have a job or a good way to make money, I might go to Africa this year and I want my own camera, and there is one online for 80 dollaras i was looking at. I have an ihome I bought for $200 and I was thining of selling it. Should I?

Give us the link to this $80 camera .. my guess it is a toy ... if it is a toy, it will have a 3mp to 5mp sensor, but say it has 8mp to 12mp interpolated resolution.  It will also have a "focus free" lens which means it cannot be focused .. it is preset to about 2m (close to 6 feet) and has some kind of 8x or more digital zoom ... totally worthless or even worse because it gives the owner a false security that they have really good lens on the camera ... it does not

You may find a good camera at one of the discount stores for around $110 or less that has a 3x optical zoom, uses SD memory cards and a sensor with a 7mp pixel count or better.

You will need to buy at least a 2GB memory card and download them to a computer every week or so.  Remember to not modify any of the images without saving them as a different file name ... so you don't over write your original file.

When I was on a trip for nine and a half weeks, I saved all my image files on a CD every time I had at least 690 MB in files.  This the proceedure used.   Fill the memory card.  Copy all the image files to a computer and then format the memory card so it was ready for the next sessions of shooting.  Then later I would burn a CD when I could fill one.  It is a good idea to have a second card with you so if you fill one, you can use the second until you can download them to a computer.  Do not be tempted into deleting images from the cameras memory card ... doing that can cause corruption of the whole card ...
