Question:

Should I separate my budgies when they are trying to mate while they have babies that are still in their nest?

I have 2 budgies that recently had 4 babies. The babies are somewhat fully grown, but are still in the nest getting fed. They are peeking their head out of the nest but are not comfortable coming out yet. However I noticed a few days ago that my older budgies were trying to mate. Should I separate the male and leave the female with the kids so that she can feed the kids or should i separate the female? Please help.

  1. I would not seperate them. I would allow nature to take it's course. Unless of course you're not into feeding an extra couple of mouths, then do whatever you feel is best.

  2. Hi,

Don't separate them as you are only putting strain and stress on the hen.
