I made some bbq ribs. My friend gave me a rack and I bought a rack from the store. The rack from the store smelled a little funny to me. The sell date isn't until the 17th but I just don't feel right about the rack from the store. What should I do?

  1. i say trust your instincts and don't cook it, besides your friend brought you some ribs, so maybe its a sign.

  2. i think u shouldn't have it.

  3. When in doubt throw it out! If you think they smell funny and you don't think you should eat them, don't. I know it stinks to waste money, but it's not worth getting food poisoning.

  4. if it really smells awful then throw it out if it is just a slight smell you can cook it wash it good first

  5. if it smelt you should take it back to the store even if its is in date

  6. if the meat smells rancid or spoiled, be on the safe side and don't eat it.  also, check the color and texture of the meat.  if it looks greenish or purplish, or seems slimy or mushy, it may have started to spoil.

firm texture and red to brownish-gray color indicate fresher meat.  remember that meat oxidizes from bright red to darker gray as oxygen comes into contact with the cut surface.  a dark color does not always indicate spoilage.

  7. A good cooking tip I have always used is:

"When in doubt, throw it out!"

I may have thrown out food that was OK before, but I never took a chance, and no one got sick in 40 years of cooking for a big family!

  8. Throw it out.........Specially if it is marinated or in a sauce

Store sometimes will hide their border line meats in a sauce or marinade to get a few more days out on the shelf.

  9. Cook it until it falls of the bone.

You will be happy with it and you will not be able to tell which is which.
