Should I smack my kids or send them to their rooms??

I have 2 girls and I do smack them occasionly on the bum but I don't know if ithis is ok?? most of my friends smacktheir children on the but to and thik it is ok..Should i send them to their room or embarrass them in public or something?? HELP!!

You smack them in public, you are looking at abuse charges...Depending on the situation, send them to their room, and use spanking as a last resort.

Mmm, I don't think smacking helps. You should send them to a place like a corner or a stool and have them sit there for a certain amount of time (depending on the naughty behavior) and then they need to come apologize to you.

If you are trying to teach them that it's okay to resort to phyiscal violence when they get angry then go ahead and smack them.  But don't be surprised if the school starts calling you telling you that your girls are hitting other kids.  Don't be surprised if parents of your children's friends don't allow your kids to their homes any longer.  What is in their rooms that you are sending them to?  Televisions? Computers? Video game systems?

smacking usually makes kids more angry and if you continue it will be more noticeable once they are older.

small children usually dont get very embarrassed.

but i think the corner would be more appropriate for younger kids and going to their room for older kids.

Also if they go to their room make sure they arent watching tv or playing any sort of  video game or anything fun.

smacking them doesn't work. sit them down and have a long talk with them. lonnnnnng boring lectures worked super well for my 3 boys lol.

  They totally detest them so they behave themselves.

A little spanking is okay, its the old school way.  When my mother smacked me though, It didn't work.  I felt like she didn't love me even though she said she did.  I understood it was because I was bad, but it didn't register in my mind that way.  Kinda hard to explain.  I would of prefered if my mother sent me to my room to cool off and then talked to me about right and wrong things....all that good stuff.

no spanking.  spanking is horrible.

and don't send them to their room if they have nice stuff in there, like TV, computer, telephone, etc.  Otherwise, that's fine.  Oh or you can just ground them.  Like... NO TV FOR A MONTH, etc.  or a week.  whatever

I am from the older generation, 63, when I did something wrong I got smacked and hard, I remember the pain. It put me off doing the same thing twice. I have no criminal record, I have never taken drugs and I have never looked for trouble. The modern BS about not smacking kids is just that, psychobable BS.

Children are people, too. If someone behaved badly at work, would you punch them out? Just because they are little people is no excuse to hit them. They are people and deserve just as much respect as an adult, if not more.

You should NEVER try to embarrass or humiliate your child in an attempt to get them to behave. This has a very damaging effect on self esteem. What you want to do is correct their behaviour, not attack them.

Don't try to reason with them as if they were adults either. I am direct with my children - I tell them what I expect from them and they know that they must obey my rules. They are well behaved.
