Should I spend the money?

I am considering buying a 1990 Chevrolet Lumina with 65K thousand miles for about $900 (price not settled yet.) The problem is that the car does not run and needs a new radiator. How much would that cost and is it worth the money in the first place?

  1. If the radiator is the only problem you'll probably end up with a decent car for cheap.

But if the car isn't running how can you be sure that is the only thing that needs repaired. A new engine will cost you several thousand dollars.

If the car has been sitting for a long time do not even consider buying it.  Way to many hidden problems with a car that has sat still for a long time.

  2. hi, i would never hand over 900 dollars for a car thats not run ning, regardless of how much you want it.

  3. no....do not buy it....if it is not running today, there is no guarantee that putting in a new radiator and whatever else will get it running reliably

  4. The rad will be the least of your problems....If the car has been siting that amount of time, the brakes are most certainly gone...so you'll have that bill...Who's trying to sell you this...I hope it's not a friend...

    DON'T BUY IT!

  5. If it needs a radiator it means it over heated.  And than you DON'T know if the engine is severely damaged.  I actually wouldn't buy it.  But hey this is just 1 man's opinion on Y!

  6. If I were you, i would work a little harder for a few more months or so and earn more money and be able to buy a more reliable car that will last you longer. good luck!

  7. No way  - You might never get that thing running or spend alot of extra money to do it.

  8. So, it also has 3 and a half year old gas in the tank if any.  I wouldn't pay $900 for a running 18 year old car, let alone that one that has been sitting.  How may rats/mice/squirrels have chewed on the wires?

  9. A 1990 Lumina in fair condition is listed at a private party value of $775.  You're paying $900 + a few hunderd for the radiator justto see if that gets it running again.  This car should probably be junked, not sold.

  10. Offer no more then 200$ and thats only if you plan to get it running yourself.  If you plan on taking it to a mechanic keep looking.

  11. Stay away from the car. You are asking for trouble if you buy it.
