Question:

Should I spray paint micorfiber plush cushions on a bed headboard?

I want to change the color. Are there any bad things about spray painting the cuhions that will touch my pillows and head--such as uneven tone (since it's microfiber) or lingering toxic fumes?

Thank you.

  1. How about going to a fabric store and getting a few yards of something you like,,,then using a staple gun to fasten it to the back?  My sister has changed her headboard 2 or 3 times this way.

Be sure to pull the fabric evenly and staple it down like you would tighten lug nuts on a car...top/bottom left/right

  2. I would stencil it!.  Spray paint contains numerous solvents and caustic odors that could hurt you.  Go read the spray bottle.  It can't feel comfortable either, it would be stiff.

  3. I suspect that it would not work too well.  The spray paint will lie on the surface and get all thick and rubbery rather than soak into the fabric.  This would cause the fibers to lose the softness that you like in the microfiber.  I would get some clothing dye from the store and perhaps spray it on or wipe it on.  The other way that may be better is to just get some different fabric and recover it.  That way it isn't permanent and you can undo it if you want.
