For fantasy purposes, do you think his toe injury will hinder his play or even from starting the season? Advice and recommendations welcome. Thanks.

  1. Yes, you should worry.

The surgery on his big toe had a 3-6 month recovery time.  That's quite significant.

The Chargers placed him on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list.  He'll have to pass a physical before we will know more.

He tested the toe in camps and said it was "65 to 70 percent healed."

I love his play, but I think I won't reach for him this year.  Wait for him to drop down the board, and plan to have a backup like Tony Scheffler.

  2. I dont know if you have already drafted and picked him,but personally, i wouldnt draft gates. i normally hold off on drafting a TE, because the top TE doesnt make that many more points then say the #4 TE. Ya, i might try to find somebody to trade him for, but unless you get a good offer, dont just get rid of him just for the sake of it. he still should be a solid option at the TE, just may not be the same antonio gates we have come to love.

  3. Absolutely,  It has proven to be a reoccurring injury, it is a bad case of turf toe. The good news is that the second string TE "Brandon Manumaleuna," is a 300lb 28yo that is as slow as a linebacker. My prediction is he will play 2/3 of the year and will have much less yards than last year due to the attention Chris Chambers will get. Expect 600 yard, 5-7td's. trade while he's high.

  4. Yeah,I suggest to check the position where your opponent that has J.Witten is weakest at...Then,if it's WR say, package

Gates with a WR off your bench, and offer both of them for Witten.Romo loves throwing to Witten,so expect Witten to be the no.1 TE in the FFL world once again.
