Should I stay or go? Please help!!?

I left the UK for Aus 5 months ago. Have had a great time, but now things have got a bit stale and I'm working minimum wage, long hours, and don't see I'll be able to save for 2month Asia trip at NY, or for 3mth trip I want to do to work with poor children in Nepal. Things are so much more expensive in Aus than in the UK, & I earn so much more money there. I am also very very homesick.

My 'safety net' return ticket is booked for next week & I'm tempted to use it. It'll mean I can go home, work for 3 months then get out to Asia and do the other things I want to do.

But I'm scared that if i go home I'll feel trapped. I left for a reason, so is going back taking backward steps? I miss my family and friends and London itself so much.

Should I stay and slog it out for the 7 months remaining on my visa? Or should I go home, enjoy a few months with my friends, and then get off and see some more of the world?

I just have a nagging feeling that I'll have 'failed' if I go home now...

Thanks very much for your help!!

  1. You haven't failed.  You traveled to enjoy yourself and see the world.  If you aren't enjoying it, then leave.  A minimum wage job is no way to go through life.

  2. It's really up to you. I completely understand what you feel. I moved to another country myself and I know what it is to feel homesick. Take it as a precious life experience. If you go home do you feel you will regret about it? Think what is most important for you, if you are not able to save up money for the other trip that is really important for you maybe it makes sense to come back.
