She's 83 and has been smoking since she was 15. My sister said the doctor said the artery in her kidneys is blocked and that's why she's dizzy and weak and that's what causing the high blood pressure. Is this contagious and serious or will she improve with time. No one is really talking and my mother hasn't told me even though I asked, although she may be forgetful at times. I want to spend time with her but I would like to know the whole story on her health before I go.She has been hospitalized 3 times in the last two months

  1. Considering her age and health it doesn't sound very good. Does she still smoke? She should seriously stop if she hasn't already I mean it's a little to late now to stop because the damage is already done. Is she active at all? I don't think it's contagious because it's in the lungs of the person who's infected. It's not good for the fluid to build up in the lungs either. I know it gets worse each time a person gets it also. and as for the blocked artery in her kidneys, they haven't done anything for that? Yes, that does cause a boost in the blood pressure. They can treat with renal angioplasty and stent placement and that should help with her blood pressure.

  2. If your mom won't answer your question. Talk to her doctor & find out what can be done. I would stay with your mom. No it is not contagious. & yes it is serious   with the blocked artey. I lost my mom from a blockage in her lings when I was just little. Tell the doctor you want to know what can be done. They should be able to break up the blockage with all the medicines they have out know. Don't give up you will regret for not asking. Good luck to you & your MOM
