My car's registration is expiring in October and I'm planning to donate it before then. Should I still renew the registration?

  1. Nope.

  2. Not if you're donating it. If you were selling it then yes, current registration is a plus when it comes time to sell. But giving it away? Don't bother.

Depending on your state's rules charities often have to turn in the plates on a donated vehicle anyway, so it'd be a waste of money if you were planning on the charity route.

  3. No, you don't need to renew your registration before you donate your car.  Also, in many states, if you sell or trade in your car to a dealership, they are required by law to give your plates and registration sticker back to you. So it would really be pointless to renew.
