Question:

Should I still run 1/2 marathon after temperature?

this sunday there is a major marathon event in our city. i'm an "ok" runner (did track at school and run for fun). I've been waiting for this event for the whole year, even bought myself some asics kayano's. ironically on friday I woke up with temperature, now I am feeling better. My goal is not to compete but to complete the distance in control time(3h).

I heard that it is dangerous, but could I still make this attempt?

  1. my main concern for you would be high risk of dehydration. fevers can manipulate and distort our bodies hydration levels and even though you are feeling better there are effects of fevers that last sometimes weeks after the fact. hydration is a major part of that.

  2. I would...but then again I'm stubborn when it comes to my well-being.

If you really want to I would say yes...you'll completely exhaust your body and probably pass out during the marathon, but that's why the paramedics are on standby for the race!

  3. Still have around 40 hrs. so I'd say you'll be alright........just make sure to stay hydrated and to eat good for the next day so you'll be ready.  Take aspirin before to make sure you can complete the 13.1 Mi. distance.

  4. It depends on how sick you were.  I ran a half marathon after being very sick and did not give my body enough time to recover and I ended up with a stress fracture in my foot.  I don't know if it is because I was sick or not, but I'm sure it didn't help.  So if you want to run it, go ahead but you may want to pull out of the race if you start to hurt.

  5. no, but if you really want to (I'd want to) do it, but just go really slow and stop as soon as you feel sick or light headed.
