Question:

Should I stop taking creatine a month prior to the soccer season?

I lift weights on a weekly basis (3 times a week). I do quite a bit of lower body exercises + sprint/hill training, endurance/interval training, as well as a few upper body lifts. I've decided to start using creatine (as I'm not in season right now) to help speed up my muscular gains, but I'm worried the extra weight from the water will decrease my performance during the season, so should I get rid of all the creatine in my body before the season starts?

  1. Sven, taking creatine as a healthy person is not a good idea.

Your body already makes it so that when you exercise your muscles have the energy they need.  If you take supplements, your body will think that there is too much creatine and stop making as much.  Over time, your body will become less able to make creatine on its own, and you will become dependent on creatine supplements.

Creatine should only be used for individuals with muscular and neuromuscular disorders.

  2. Thanks Ben for answering Sven's question and I thank Sven for asking because I was going to start takeing creatine.  Learned something new today.
