Should I swap my 2 1/2 yr olds security item for a similar one which we can easily replace if lost?

My son is 2 1/2 and has been attached to a certain blanket and a stuffed monkey since birth. We have 2 blankets so I just rotate them when one is dirty and he doesn't seem to notice and it's comforting to know if we ever lose the blanket we have a back up. His monkey is another story. We only have one and he's a little worn and yesturday we temporarily lost them both overnight. I had the other blanket as a backup BUT I had to tell him his monkey was sleeping over at Grandmas. We found them the next day at daycare but it caused me to panic at the thought of loosing this monkey. I can't find another one BUT I found a very close clone and wondered should I buy 2 of those and "switch" them now while he's young or just hope we never lose it again? My husband thinks I'm crazy and how could I switch his buddy, my mom says better now then later cause he'll notice when he's older and then if something happens we're stuck. Advice? Thanks so much!

  1. I would definatly try it! The worst that can happen is that he notices. Just don't ditch the other monkey for a little bit!

Maybe Monkey could sleep over at Grandmas a couple nights a week and he will learn that he doesn't really need it all the time. Eventually, Monkey could have sleep overs all the time and then a permanent sleepover (haha).

My little brother always had to have 3 soothers when he went to bed. One in his mouth, one in each hand. I used to tell him my baby took one because he lost his...he was willing to share. Now he's down to one lol.

  2. i think sometimes its the parents that are far more attached to the security items than the child.  Don't panic so bad next time, he's only 2 1/2, sure it may make for a hard couple days but just tell him that his monkey went to another little boy who needed him more.  He'll get over it faster than you will.
