Question:

Should I swap my '95 Chevy Monte Carlo for a '95 Chevy Blazer?

I have a 1995 Monte Carlo with some dents and dings, No air, No heat and needs wiring replacement for the brake lights to come on. My husband loves Chevy Blazers and my friend is willing to swap out his 1995 Blazer for our Monte Carlo. The Blazer has no AC, needs a totally new muffler and a new front bumper. I checked on Kelley Blue Book already to see the difference in worth and for each car in "fair condition" it was a little less that one thousand dollar difference. I was curious... is this a good trade in? And are these needed repairs going to be expensive and not pay off in the end? Both cars run excellent.

  1. First, Based on what you described, both cars are in poor condition.

Second, are you prepared to pay the extra gas you will need to run the Chevy Blazer?

You will need a new muffler to pass emissions.  The bumper and air is your choice.  As it stands neither car is worth much.  The Blazer is probably worth less then in Kelly Blue book,  $3.50 gas has killed the SUV market.  This is a toss up.  Personally, I wouldn't do it simply because of the extra gas but this may not be an issue for you.

  2. Neither set of repairs is especially expensive.  A new aftermarket muffler will run about $100-$300, depending upon what you are looking for.  A bumper would probably run $400 out of a salvage yard.

Is this a full size blazer, or a mid sized one?
