Okay so yeah my son just turned three months and well the slow flow nipples just don't seem to be cutting it...and we have some fast flow nipples and some of the tri-cut with the tri-cut he seems to be making a huge mess but he doesn't like choke on it or anything...he eats around 7 ounces right now we just bumped him up to the 7 because 6oz just made him madder...but which nipples should i use the fast flow or the tri-cut(aka variable flow) i also cant seem to find any medium flow nipples....we are using the playtex drop-in bottles just so ya'll know! thanks!

  1. maybe try a different bottle.  I know the Playtex vent airs have fantastic stage 2 nipple.    I would definitely move him up a size.  When a nipple is too slow flow for a baby...... its cause them to swallow to much air and can cause gas and fussiness.

  2. I don't think the Drop-ins make a medium flow nipple. I've only seen slow and fast flow. I use the same ones too.

ETA: Well I guess they do make some. I was curious about this myself and it seems as if Babies R Us sells the medium flow.

  3. Playtex drop ins are what I use. My son is only 2 months but we put rice cereal in his formula (for his reflux) and we cant even get it out of the variable flow! Anyways, what I would do is since the fast flow and tri-cut make a huge mess (which means it is too much for him- regardless of if he chokes, he still isnt swallowing it fast enough and if he could he'd be getting too much air it seems like), cut the slow flow nipples so that the holes are slightly bigger where he gets just enough out for himself.

  4. Hi, we also use the playtex drop ins. My son is now 4 months old. We started with the slow and tricut silicone nipples. I know what you mean about the mess. Probably means it is a a little too fast for him. I did find a pack of medium flow ones somewhere, only one store had them thought and I didnt think they existed. Maybe babies are us. Eventually, we tried the latex nipples. After he tried those, he did NOT want the silicone ones at all anymore. The rubber ones or latex as it is now called are so soft and easy to drip from. He makes less mess and doesnt suck air as much. The down side is that they can pick up smells and need to be replaced every few months. Mine seem to be holding up well so far.

At night we use the fast silicone or tri cut ones to give him his milk with rice cereal. If you make it too thick, it wont come out though.

    Good luck, hope that helps.
