I've have always had Time Warner as my cable provider. I never had any problems. Then 2 years ago Comcast comes and takes over Time Warner where I live. For the past two year I have had nothing but problems with Comcast. My Video On Demand wouldnt work have the time. My internet would constantly fail. Also I would order WWE and UFC ppvs, and the the events would rarely show good. I remember one time I ordered a WWE ppv last October. The event started to play, but 10 mins. into the whole screen went black. I would called Comcast customer support. I literally had to wait about 45 mins to an hour before I was able to talk to someone. And to top it all off, those still tried to charge for the ppv even though it only showed for about 10 mins. Two days my cable, internet, and phone went off for no reason. I had to wait 10 hrs. before it came back on. Bottom line, I'm sick of paying Comcast for lackluster service.

  1. Having FIOS means that you will have your own direct line from your home to the CO (central office), and you will not be sharing your signal with anybody. If you have cable Internet and sometime experience slowdown at specific time that is why, you are sharing your signal. I also like that with FIOS the fact of if you ever loose power you will still have dial tone because of the bbu, that is if you have a non cordless phone. The best thing about FIOS I have to say is that they use a proud union work force, not contractors that get paid by the job. You can be sure that your job will be done the the highest standards.

  2. Call AT&T. They now provide Dish & internet w/o phone service so you would ahve the option of using vonage or some other alternative form of phone service and still getting good services. My internet is $19.99 month and I could have had a bunch of channels for $40-ish but I don't have cable and wasn't willing to add that to my budget yet. I previously had cox Communications and my internet was always having problem and I was paying 2x as much and now I don't seem to have any issues.

  3. Direct tv is very good. In many areas DTV does offer internet service now. Also they bundle with verizon who offers phone and internet if available in your are. If you do go to directv get your hd equiptment when you first sign up or there may be additional charges later.

  4. It sounds like you have a good reason to drop Comcast.  Directv is a good choice for the television.  I have had it for over 10 years and have been completely satisfied.  Heavy precipitation, rain or snow, can interrupt the signal but that does not happen often and the loss of signal is usually very short.

But, Directv is only for TV, not internet or phone.  If you want the internet and there is no other provider, such as your phone company, you can use the Hughesnet satellite service which I also use.  The connection speed is faster than dial-up but not as fast as other hard wired systems.

  5. I've had Directv for half a year now and currently i have no problems with their service however i haven't exactly encountered any situations that require me to ask for customer support so i have no idea how they deal with problems.

  6. Comcast acquired Time Warner in Minneapolis as well -- the Internet performance dropped significantly and trying to get in touch with anyone at their office who knew *anything* about relatively basic technical concepts seemed near impossible.  I switched to Qwest and will not use Comcast again.  I've never used Directv, but have friends using Dishnetwork and they are pleased.
